The Biggest Morning Tea

The Biggest Morning Tea was organized by the Y12 VM students with the support of Y11 VCE and VM students. It was an initiative to raise funds and awareness of cancer which lots of us have been touched by in our lives. They successfully raised $730 (estimated) to donate to the Cancer Council. Students started planning in Term 1 and the event was held on the 22nd of May 2026. Students had a local ambassador, Ms. Robyn Hatherell, who shared her story with the students. They worked as a team in support of the teachers and other staff members of Baimbridge College. They needed to plan and make formal proposals to the school leadership team and all other steps to make the event a successful one. They might have made some mistakes and there are areas to improve for the next year which they recorded in their reflection of the event. We appreciate the support of the guests, students, staff and teachers who supported making it a successful event.

In the kitchen

Year 12 Food Studies students recently put their skills to the test by preparing delicious Coconut Chicken Bowls as part of an assessed practical task. Students demonstrated their cooking techniques, time management and presentation skills, producing a range of colourful and flavourful dishes. The results were impressive, with students showcasing both creativity and confidence in the kitchen.

Year 8 Food Studies students have been busy in the kitchen preparing Shake and Bake Chicken Drumsticks with fries. As part of their practical lessons, students developed their food preparation and cooking skills while creating this tasty meal. The finished dishes looked fantastic and were enjoyed by all.

Technology

Year 7 students have been developing their design and technology skills through a range of hands-on projects. In one project, students researched and designed their own wind chimes for relaxation and decoration. They cut and drilled aluminium tubing to create different musical notes, shaped and drilled sheet metal to produce a durable top section, and created acrylic wind catchers and timber strikers. Students then learned how to assemble and string their wind chimes to a central point, which also serves as the hanging mechanism.

Students have also been crafting wooden spoons using traditional woodworking techniques. They used carving gouges and sandpaper to shape their spoons, cut handle designs with a coping saw, and refined the handles using a spindle sander to ensure they were smooth and comfortable to hold. These projects have provided students with valuable experience in using a variety of tools, materials, and manufacturing processes while creating functional and decorative products.

Year 7 Product Design students created Indigenous Art Inspired group quilts together. Students had fun experimenting with natural and synthetic dyes. They used food products (beetroot, coffee and turmeric) to dye wool, cotton, silk, and linen. They then used synthetic dyes and tie dye techniques to produce a fabric for their artwork. Students created their own unique aerial view design representing a special place to them using dot painting techniques on their panel. Their completed artwork was hand stitched together with peers’ work to contribute to collaborative class quilts. The quilts look so bright and colourful!

Year 8 Visual Arts students have been busy creating impressive dog sculptures using recycled cardboard as part of their upcoming library exhibition, The Dog Show. Students demonstrated ingenuity, creativity and enthusiasm throughout this challenging sculpture task, with each dog showcasing its own unique personality and character. The finished sculptures look fantastic and are a wonderful example of the students' imagination and artistic skills.

Alongside this project, students have also been creating striking monochromatic watercolour portraits, exploring tone, shading and contrast using a single colour palette to produce expressive and detailed artworks.

Year 9 Art students have been exploring air-dried clay through the creation of decorative dishes, coasters and sculptures. After shaping, painting and decorating their pieces, students produced colourful and creative artworks that showcase their imagination, artistic skills and unique designs.

Eisteddfod

We proudly took two ensembles to the Hamilton Eisteddfod this year, with both groups achieving outstanding success in their respective categories.

The Green Band, also known as Soup, is made up primarily of Year 10 students, supported by a Year 11 vocalist. After months of rehearsals and hard work building their repertoire, the group performed two well-known pieces in the Open Instrumental Ensemble section. Competing against an experienced rock band and the Hamilton City Concert Band, the students delivered a confident performance despite a number of challenges, including last-minute schedule changes, equipment issues and even a broken guitar string during their set.

Their professionalism and perseverance paid off, with the group taking out first place. One student's excited message following the announcement perfectly captured the group's reaction: 

"BENNY 

BENNY GUESS WHAT. 

BENNY GUESS WHAT WE WON. 

WE WON AGAINST A STRING ORCHESTRA 

AND A REAL GOOD ROCK BAND. 

WE WOOOON!"

The enthusiasm in this message reflects the pride, excitement and sense of achievement felt by the entire ensemble after their outstanding performance.

The Baimbridge All Star Jazz Ensemble also impressed the adjudicator with a performance of Madison Time. As an ensemble that welcomes new members each year, it was particularly exciting to have several Year 7 students join the group for the first time. The performance featured solos by Drew P, Freddie J and Lyric S, earning excellent feedback from the adjudicator and securing another first prize for Baimbridge College.

Congratulations to all students involved on their outstanding achievements. Their commitment to the music program and willingness to perform at such a high level is a credit to themselves and the College. We look forward to seeing these talented musicians perform again at the Music Night next term.

Legacy Junior Public Speaking

Recently, several students took part in the Legacy Junior Public Speaking Competition, with four Year 7 students representing Baimbridge. Our participants were: Asis B, Mikah J, Jessica M, and Braxton N. The event challenged each participant to deliver both a prepared speech and an impromptu one, a combination that tested confidence, quick thinking, and clear communication. Our topics for the prepared speeches included the importance of mental health, the amazing role of volunteers, and the importance of music in both war and everyday life.

We spent several weeks creating and practising our speeches, focusing on structure, eye contact, and engaging our audience. The impromptu round was a completely different experience with every student finding it extremely difficult, but we pushed through and got it done in the end. We were given a topic (Does money make the world go around?) and were only given a short time to prepare before speaking. It pushed us to stay calm, think creatively, and trust our instincts.

All four of us performed with enthusiasm and represented the school proudly. It was an exciting opportunity to build our public speaking skills, support one another, and learn from talented speakers from other schools. We left the competition feeling more confident and inspired to keep improving. We are extremely grateful to Mrs Churchill for being a big help along the way.  Thank you.

Addams Family Production

Our students are hard at work rehearsing for our upcoming production of the Addams Family Musical. 

This comedy introduces you to the family with a brand-new story, Wednesday has fallen in love! And worst of all, he’s from Ohio. Follow this kooky cast of characters as they try to keep the family together through this perilous time.
