Sports Update
7-10 PE Aquatic Unit
We have finished the Aquatics unit. Over the four weeks, students were involved in fun activities and water safety in the 25m pool at HILAC. As usual, there are some challenges with getting some students in the pool due to body image, anxiety and lingering cold symptoms. However, participation and engagement was excellent across years 7-10. SurfLife Saving Australia recently reported that half of Australian school students can’t swim 50m. We value the challenge of breaking down these barriers and getting the students actively involved for their safety around water and engagement in aquatic physical activity.
Year 7 Water Safety Certificates
Across the unit, students were required to demonstrate a number of water safety competencies including: swim continuously for 50m, perform a series of rescues, tow, tread water for 2 mins, then swim using survival strokes fully clothed for 3 mins.
Students that successfully gained the certificate:
| Hana C

Year 8 Gold 400m+
Within the Year 8 Aquatics unit, students participate in some aquafun games. There is also 10 minutes swim component, where students get an opportunity to demonstrate the fitness developed over the unit. Those students who are able to swim over 16 laps, which equates to 400 metres have achieved an excellent result, and they get awarded the Gold 400 metre + certificate.
This year Sophie S (425m) and Jade W (400m) were able to achieve this high level of performance.
Special mentions go to; Renee W (350m), Selina K (375m), Chloe Y (350m)
Year 9 Bandicoot Bronze Medallion
This is a modified version of the Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion; Students demonstrate their CPR competencies in the classroom, then demonstrate physical capabilities in a variety of swims; in PDF, fully clothed and in swim wear. They also need to demonstrate rescues using throws, tows and spinal techniques.
Those who have demonstrated the ability to meet all of the requirements of the unit are:
Raine H Brax M Drew P Max R Siarrah B Freddie J Deacon T | Jordan U Seth W Silas A Dean H Lia R Darcy S |
Push Up Challenge
Australia's official Push-Up Challenge ends on Friday, June 26.
Those who finish all of the challenge will have completed 3,307 push-ups (or an alternative exercise) over 24 days to raise awareness of mental health initiatives.
Our Baimbridge Team are on track to bank approximately 28,000 push-ups over the 24 days!!!
Bandicoot Block
Well done to the students today that come out and attempted last weeks Bandicoot Block. We had some great numbers in the Junior years, pushing students for new records.
