Greater Western Region Cross Country

Congratulations to our Greater Western Region Cross Country representatives who competed in Warrnambool on 26 May. All students represented the school with determination and pride, achieving some fantastic results. Hana C finished 11th in the Under 13 Girls event, Sophie placed 29th in the Under 13 Girls, Noah J finished 23rd in the Under 13 Boys, and Freddie J placed 14th in the Under 15 Boys. Well done to all competitors on their outstanding efforts.

Girls Footy

Despite being short on numbers, the girls showed great resilience and teamwork throughout the day. We were fortunate to share players with Hamilton College, and the combined effort from everyone involved made for a successful and enjoyable experience.

The team was outstanding, winning all of their games and playing with determination, skill, and sportsmanship. Layla S was a jet all day, dominating around the ground and having a huge impact in every match. Mia was a constant threat up forward and finished the day with four goals, a terrific achievement. In defence, Hannah H was rock solid, consistently stopping opposition attacks and providing great leadership and composure.

What stood out most was the way the girls supported one another and put into practice the skills they have been developing. Their effort, teamwork, and positive attitude were evident in every game.

I was incredibly proud of the girls and the way they represented themselves and our school. They should be very proud of what they achieved, and their continued improvement is exciting to see.

GD Basketball

On Wednesday 10 June, our senior basketballers took to the courts of HILAC as they competed in the GD Basketball Competition.

Our Year 9 and 10 girls epitomised our school values of Courage and Pride as they faced off against some very strong opposition teams, never taking a backward step, working as a team to force their opponents to dig deep to find away through their defence. The 9/10 boys fort hard all day, demonstrating moments of brilliance and skill. They had an even shares of wins and losses on day, which was the same for our 11/12 boys. Some strong individual efforts under and around the ring kept the boys competitive, while some tight zone defence made score a challenge for their opponents. The 11/12 girls team performed consistently all day, nothing fancy, just a nice balance of height, fight, brains and skill. They managed to will all of their games on the day, qualifying them for the next round of competition.

Special thanks to Harvey M for volunteering to be our team referee. A very big shout out to Mr Steer, who is currently undertaking a teaching placement at Baimbridge. Mr Streer offered to help out on the day and ended up referee all but one of the round. It is fair to say that he went above and beyond the call of duty, which is greatly appreciated.

Glenelg Bike Camp

Recently, our class took part in a two-day mountain bike camp at Lower Glenelg National Park. The camp was part of our outdoor education program and gave us the opportunity to challenge ourselves, improve our riding skills, and experience life in the outdoors. Although some parts of the camp were difficult, it was an enjoyable and rewarding experience that taught us many valuable lessons.

Before the camp, we participated in several bike-riding sessions at school to prepare for the trip. These sessions helped us develop our confidence and learn important safety skills. When the day of the camp arrived, everyone was excited and ready for the adventure ahead.

During the camp, we rode along a variety of different trails and tracks around the Glenelg River.  At times the ride was physically demanding, especially when riding uphill or through soft sand, but the scenery made the effort worthwhile, and we enjoyed seeing the natural environment up close.

Throughout the camp, teamwork played an important role. Everyone supported each other during the bike rides and helped with tasks around the campsite. The experience taught us that working together makes challenges easier to overcome. We also learned the importance of resilience, determination, and maintaining a positive attitude when things become difficult.

By the end of the trip, we were tired but proud of what we had accomplished. We had ridden many kilometres, faced new challenges, and gained confidence in our abilities. The camp also strengthened friendships and gave us a greater appreciation for nature and outdoor activities.

Overall, the mountain bike camp was a fantastic experience that I will remember for a long time. It allowed me to develop new skills, build confidence, and create lasting memories with my classmates. I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in such an exciting and rewarding adventure.
