Year 10 Work Experience

Earlier this term, our Year 10 students completed their Work Experience placements across a wide range of industries. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop new skills, explore potential career pathways, and gain valuable insight into the world of work. Read below to hear about their experiences and reflections from their chosen workplaces!

I did my placement with Julian Holland and his apprentice Keely, Julian owns his business called ‘Fighting Farrier’. Every morning we went down to Cranbourne Racecourse, Julian and Keely would trim the racehorses and plate them to prepare them for racing. We would also go to other trainers houses and stables. On Thursday and Friday we went to Puzzle Park (an agistment place) and I got the opportunity to trim a horse’s hoof. It was a wonderful opportunity, I made friends and they may even take me on as an apprentice sometime in the future. The only bad thing I’d say it that it should’ve been two weeks instead of one.

Below are the photos of the trim I did.

My Year 10 work experience at Belle Bane Conveyor Products was a really positive and valuable week where I got a taste of what a real workplace is like. Some of the highlights included helping out with simple spreadsheet tasks, which gave me a better understanding of how businesses organise and record information. I also assisted with everyday jobs like getting coffees for staff and sweeping floors, which showed me the importance of teamwork and being willing to help wherever needed. Throughout the week, I developed useful skills such as communication, time management, and attention to detail, as well as learning how to follow instructions in a professional environment. Overall, it was a great introduction to the world of work and helped me build confidence in a workplace setting.

I completed my work experience with a family friend who does plumbing. I learnt how to use tools such as copper cutters, crimpers and got my own tape measure. I also learnt and became more skilled with how to set up an ac unit and a water heating system. A highlight from the week had to have been getting bahn mi after a job. It was delicious.
