Engagement & Wellbeing

Our Prep students have been working hard to demonstrate our school values and make positive choices. Throughout the term, students have been continuing to earn bronze and silver awards for their individual efforts, as well as working together to achieve exciting class rewards. Prep Dunn celebrated with a class party this afternoon! Prep Mortlock chose to have icepoles as their reward! And Prep Greene celebrated with a class movie!
It has been wonderful to see students encouraging one another, showing kindness, following our school expectations and celebrating each other’s successes. We are so proud of the effort our Preps have put in and the positive classroom community they continue to build! 🎉
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships
Managing Anger
The Grade 1/2 Team have been learning about how we manage anger as part of our Respectful Relationships.
During our activity, we discussed different experiences that can make us feel angry. The children shared some great ideas, including:
- When someone annoys you
- When someone is not listening
- When someone does not follow the game rules
- When someone plays with your hair
- When people call you names
We discussed that when we feel angry, it is important to find a safe and positive way to calm and control ourselves so that we do not say or do things that may hurt or scare others. Sometimes, it can also be helpful to tell someone what we are angry about and ask for their help.
The children then brainstormed strategies that can help us manage our anger before it becomes too big or difficult to control. Some of their suggestions included:
- Walking to a safe space
- Listening to music
- Thinking of a solution together
- Quiet drawing
- Having a rest
- Balloon Breathing
- Thinking of happy thoughts
We then practised Balloon Breathing together and discussed how taking slow, deep breaths can help our bodies and minds begin to feel calmer.
To finish, the students drew their angry face and wrote about what makes them feel angry sometimes. It was wonderful to hear the children sharing their ideas and beginning to recognise that everyone experiences anger, and that we can learn strategies to manage it in safe and positive ways.
Just a reminder that Friday 30th October will be our Be Awesome Day this year. Classes are already busy planning their stalls and we need the help of our fabulous parent community! We require donations of various goods and prizes - please see your year level section of the newsletter. If you are able to help out, please bring donations into your child's classroom by Friday 23rd October.
We look forward to sharing some more information with you next term and thank you in advance for your support!

Hats are back!
As a proud SunSmart school, students will be asked to wear broad-brimmed hats or bucket hats outside from 1st September. This is in line with the Cancer Council’s SunSmart recommendation that hats be worn from this date through to the end of April. Although it may not feel like hat weather, UV levels can still be damaging on cool, cloudy days.
Staff will spend the first few days reminding students of this change. Following this, students without an appropriate hat will be required to remain in the shaded area around the Hub during lunch and recess.
Too much of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia. It is also one of the most preventable cancers. You can’t see or feel the sun’s UV. Whatever the weather, if the UV levels are three or more, it’s important to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide!
Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, free SunSmart app, sunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.
Hats may be purchased from our uniform supplier, Noone.
Noone's hours are Monday to Friday 9 am-5 pm and Saturday 9 am-12 pm.
