Year 10 Indonesian
Earlier this term Year 10 Indonesian students sent letters to students at our sister school, SMA Muhammadiyah 3 in Yogyakarta.
Last week we received back emails and Instagram shots from our new friends in Yogya. It has been a great mix of Indonesian and English or Bahasa campur or Indolish in the replies.
In September when we visit SMA Muhi 3 as part of our Year 10 Indonesian trip, we will be able to meet with our new teman!
Hopefully students will have the opportunity to visit their teman baru again, outside of the school visit whilst we’re travelling around the Yogyakarta area.
Welcome to German Exchange Student Johna
Johna arrived in Australia last week and will be at Oberon for the next 10 weeks. She lives close to Hamburg in Germany and is being hosted by Josh Rachor in Year 12. Johna is the recipient of a prestigious SAGSE scholarship and knows several of our ex-scholarship students - Willow, Hazel and Harper.
We wish Johna a wonderful stay at Oberon and in our region and look forward to her visiting our junior German classes, so that all can learn more about both Germany and the language.
Winners of the German Week Project run by the Goethe-Institut across Australia and New Zealand
Frau Ray’s Year 9 German class was last week announced the winners of this competition between Australia and New Zealand. 60 schools took part. The class made original posters in German encouraging people to take more care of our environment. Once the posters were completed, the class marched through the library, C-Block and down to the basketball courts. Many students and teachers wondered what was happening! The class has won $150 to spend on a German meal. Congratulations to all students involved on their outstanding efforts.
German Restaurant visits – Years 9 &10
Two weeks ago the first group of 54 students and 3 teachers visited the German restaurant ‘das Bierhaus’ to sample some genuine German food such as Schnitzel, Bratwurst, Käsespätzle, Apfelstrudel and Obstsalat. Sides were Sauerkraut and Kartoffelsalat. Drinks available were Cola, Limo, Apfelschorle and Spezi. One highlight was having Anne – last year’s German assistant wait our tables. All enjoyed the delicious food and the immersion in a German environment. The first group is keen to return!
The second group of 54 students will visit the restaurant this week.
