SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING CHALLENGE

Oberon Triumphs at the Annual Science and Engineering Challenge
A group of 30 enthusiastic Year 8 and 9 students from Oberon recently took part in the prestigious Science and Engineering Challenge, hosted by Deakin University at their Waurn Ponds Campus. Competing in teams against a wide field of both Private and State schools from across the region, our students once again rose to the occasion—emerging as overall winners.
This outstanding result means Oberon will now progress to the State Finals in Ballarat later this year.
Throughout the day, students tackled a variety of hands-on, problem-solving challenges including bridge building (and breaking!), Eco House design, Indigenous Fish Trap construction, aeroplane design and launch, coded communication, wind turbine creation and testing, and electricity distribution planning. Each task was designed to test scientific knowledge, innovation, teamwork, and resilience.
In addition to claiming first place overall, Oberon students were also awarded the Teamwork Award and the Best Bridge Design Award, highlighting not just their technical skill but also their ability to collaborate under pressure.
It was a true joy to witness the creativity, cooperation, and persistence shown by every team. Their efforts are a testament to the strength and spirit of our students, and we couldn't be prouder.
