Book Club Discovers the Art of Haiku Poetry

Our enthusiastic Book Club members recently embarked on a journey into the beautiful world of haiku poetry, and the results have been truly inspiring!  Over the past few weeks, students have been exploring this traditional Japanese art form, learning not just about its structure but also its connection to reading.

What Makes Haiku Special?

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that captures a moment in time with remarkable simplicity and power.  These short poems follow a specific structure of three lines with a 5-7-5 syllable pattern.

The beauty of haiku lies in its ability to say so much with so little.  These poems invite readers to pause, observe, and find meaning in everyday moments.

Our young poets have been practicing their own haiku writing, using the theme of reading and books as the focus.  The creativity they've shown has been remarkable, and their work is on display in the library for all to read and enjoy.

HAIKU ABOUT READING

Pages turn with ease

Words transport me to new worlds

Books, my escape route

Pages turn like snowflakes,

Words blanket my imagination,

Books, my winter warmth.

Pages turn like a breeze,

words travelling through my head

                                                                                         until the last page
