Team Spirit is Our Competitive Edge
Our first sport for the winter took place on 5 June when our runners headed down to Yarra Bend Park to take part in this year’s Division 1 Cross Country race. It was a chilly but sunny morning and after a quick walk of the course, the races were under way.
Our Junior runners were first up, taking on the double lap, 3km course. With twelve girls running, we had lots of cheering to do! Well done to Olivia Nikolarakos who took out the top spot for Academy. The intermediates ran next and also faired well - a special mention to Charlotte Smith, who came 4th place overall in the Intermediate category. With lots of our senior girls tied up with exams, Phoebe Gowans took to the course to bring it home for the eldest division and did an outstanding job of representing the College.
The girls finished 8th place overall and are already looking forward to coming back to race and improve next year. Well done to all of the students who ran on the day!
We’re into the depths of winter in Melbourne which means one thing - Footy! One of our biggest team sports for the year, saw over 50 students head to Royal Park to take on the Division 3 competition on 12 June.
Headed by past-student Violet Cowie, the Juniors had a great day with some strong performances, including girls who had hadn’t kicked a football before. A couple of close games meant they missed out on a Grand Final spot and finished the day in third place. Special mention to Madeleine McLachlan and Willow Ham for being the star players on the day!
The Intermediate team had a strong day, lead by Mr Molony, made it all the way to the Grand Final, sadly losing at the final horn to Sacred Heart, Oakleigh. A huge well done to the team, who were made up of Year 9 players only!
Our Senior girls also faired well. With head coach Mr Di Camillo on the bench, they came out firing from Game 1. After a very successful day on the oval, the girls also made it to the Grand Final and were also pipped at the finish line by Sacred Heart, Oakleigh. A lot of work goes into big team sports, so a big thank you to all of the coaches and the players for their hard work and adaptability on the day. Well done to everyone.
