News about our students

The Lions Youth of the Year program challenges students to step beyond their comfort zones and discover the strength of their own leadership. It celebrates not only academic excellence, but also a deep commitment to community, school involvement, public speaking and participation in sporting and cultural life. Above all, it empowers young people to find their voice, encouraging them to engage with complex social issues while sharing their personal goals, aspirations and passions.

On Saturday 14 February, College Captain Evan Ung and Public Speaking Captain Jamal Goncalves proudly represented the College at the Lions Youth of the Year competition for the Barrier Reef Club. Both students embodied authenticity, integrity and pride in their representation.

Jamal delivered an outstanding performance, earning both Public Speaker of the Day and Lions Youth Champion for the round. He advanced to the Zone Final on Saturday 14 March, where he once again distinguished himself by being awarded Public Speaker of the Day.

We congratulate both young men for their dedication, courage and commitment to excellence in public speaking. Their achievements reflect the spirit of leadership and service fostered within our college community.

St Augustine’s College remains a proud supporter of the Lions Youth of the Year program and looks forward to continuing its involvement in the 2027 season, commencing next November.
