End-of-term departures

The end of term is fast approaching with all students finishing school on Holy Thursday 2 April. Thanks to those families who have sent transport and travel details to the respective heads of residence. If you have not already done so, please send these details to the College in the next week along with travel plans for the start of Term 2. Boarders are expected back at Saints on Monday 20 April between 4 and 8pm.

I remind boarders and their families that the travel day on Thursday 2 April is only for students travelling long distances home. Weekly boarders have been asked to ensure that they stay at school until the final bell on the Thursday.

Free weekend

Our boarders are enjoying a free weekend and are asked to return to the College by 8pm Sunday or contact their respective head of residence if they wish to return Monday morning. Those St Monica's students who have stayed in boarding will have the opportunity to prepare for Week 9 Block Exams. St Augustine's and St Monica's boarders will also have some enjoyable activities to look forward to for the weekend. This week's Saturday outing will be to the Woree Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Thank you to families who have approved leave requests for this weekend. We appreciate and encourage families visiting their children on weekends and are always happy for our boarders to spend time with their families. We do, however, ask that at least 24 hours' notice is given to the head of residence so this can be approved and planned for, outside of exeat and free weekends.

Extracurricular activities

We encourage boarders to participate in community activities outside the College, including team sports and individual pursuits. When a boarder wishes to join an activity, an Extra-Curricular Activities form must be submitted to the head of residence for discussion and approval. Students may only take part in external or school activities once the form has been signed by parents or carers and the Director of Boarding.

Boarders' laundry

Several items of recreational clothing without names or numbers remain unclaimed. We have asked students to check the pile of unclaimed clothing in the next week and collect anything that belongs to them.

Saturday outings

While the weather this term has posed some challenges for our Saturday outings program, we have still enjoyed some excellent visits to Palm Cove, Etty Bay, Ellis Beach, Trinity Beach as well as skating and retail therapy. These outings are a real feature of boarding, as they bring together our full-time boarders  for social activities in a relaxed environment.

Australian Schools Boarding Expo – Hong Kong

St Augustine’s was one of 34 schools that attended the Australian International Schools Expo held in Hong Kong this week. This was an excellent opportunity to showcase our boarding school and to promote Saints on the international stage for overseas students that may be looking at studying in Australia. This is becoming a popular option with young people overseas, due to Australia's excellent schools and education.
