News from Matt Di Salvo

Head of Sport

Rugby League

Round 4 saw the Saints' Year 7 and 8/9 teams take on Woree SHS. Our Year 7 have improved immensely as the season progressed dominating the match to secure a comprehensive 46-4 victory with tries to Riley Schafer, Jack Dobosz, William Dau, Hudson Wheeler, Hudson Bartlett, Chase Odmark (2), and Martin Mejia Garces(2). Our Year 9s followed suit and bounced back from a couple of disappointing results to jump out to an early 30-0 lead before finishing 36 – 16 victors. Koby Craig led the way with 3 tries, with Edward Hammerton, Isaiah Mosby, Lucas Dewhurst, and William Irvine also scoring. Our Year 9s then travelled to St Andrew’s in Round 5, winning the game 16-12.

Our Year 7s strong season has seen them qualify for the Grand Final next Wednesday against Trinity Bay SHS. Unfortunately, due to the slow start to the season, our Year 8/9 team are in the 3rd place play-offs.

Meanwhile, Saints U16 and First XIII teams kicked off their seasons with trial matches against Woree SHS as they prepare for the upcoming Cowboys Challenge and Aaron Payne Cup campaigns. Both teams secured wins in their fixtures and are looking good as they continue to build ahead of their season.

Week 8 saw us take on Cairns SHS in a number of close matches which saw us win AFL 78 – 28, lose basketball by 3 points 62 – 65, win Football 2-1 and Touch Football 13-2, and go down 1 set to 2 in Volleyball.
