Hello from1B

Grade 1B has had a wonderful start to the school year. Over the first few weeks, we have focused on building positive relationships, getting to know one another, and establishing strong classroom routines to help everyone feel confident and ready to learn.

Each morning begins with our Ready to Learn circle, where students warmly greet one another, share news, and talk about what’s happening in their day. This special time helps us build a supportive and connected classroom community.

In Literacy, students have been revising short vowel sounds, building reading fluency through partner practice, and developing correct letter formation during handwriting sessions. We have enjoyed reading A Year on the Farm and other engaging texts, while learning about different types of nouns and the parts of a sentence.

In Numeracy, students have been exploring hundred charts, bead frames, and ten frames to strengthen their understanding of counting by tens. They have also begun learning how to partition numbers and understand place value — an important foundation for future maths learning.

We have also taken part in several enriching experiences. Students have enjoyed our Friendology sessions with Julie-Ann, visited the library, and gained valuable knowledge during our First Aid in Schools incursion. During this session, they learned the important steps: “D is for Danger, R is for Response, and S is for Send for help.”

It has been a busy and positive start to the year, and we are so proud of how well the students have settled into Grade 1B.
