Principal's Report

Mini Fete
What a fabulous response we have had to our three free dress days! Thank you everyone…..Our Mini Fete is just over 3 weeks away and the excitement is starting to build. In the coming weeks, students will be talking about their stall and will be making advertising signs to promote their product. There is lots of information in this newsletter about the fete, so please have a read. This is our major fundraising event for the year, so we really hope that all the families get behind it to help us raise some funds for our school. We are raising funds to add some shade sails over our new playground area at the back of the school.
We are still looking for helpers for the day – please see your class teacher. We are also still in need of some medium / large size cane baskets (with or without a handle).
Food Science
Our Year 6 classes have been enjoying preparing, cooking and eating in Food Science this term. I too will say I have enjoyed a sample or two of the delights that Laura and the students have whipped up. I want to thank the families that have paid the 2026 Year 3-6 curriculum contributions so far, this has allowed us to run the program in Term 1.
Schools provide students with free instruction to fulfill the standard curriculum requirements, and we want to assure you that all contributions are voluntary. Nevertheless, the ongoing support of our families ensures that our school can offer the best possible education and support for our students. Within our school this support has allowed us to provide many extra programs and one of these is Food Science. I do hope that with additional voluntary contributions throughout the year we will be able to continue the program for our Year 3, 4 and 5 students.
Expectations around family holidays during the school term
I want to thank those families that have reached out and contacted me about upcoming family extended holidays. Having this information ahead of time ensures that we have attendance rolls marked correctly and that if students are away for an extended period the class teacher has had the opportunity to discuss the continuation of learning during the absence period.
Meet the newest member of our Wellbeing team…
In the coming months, Langwarrin Primary School will begin implementing the Dogs Connect program as a whole-school initiative. As part of this exciting journey, we will be welcoming a very special new member to LPS — our very own school wellbeing dog. We know she will quickly become a much-loved and valued part of our community.
Dogs Connect partners with schools to establish wellbeing dog programs in a thoughtful, structured and evidence-based way. The framework ensures careful planning to support the wellbeing of students, staff and the dog herself. Families who would like to learn more are encouraged to visit https://dogsconnect.net.au or view their video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrVq2D-Io1E.
Our puppy is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, commonly known as a “Toller.” Tollers are the smallest of the retriever breeds and were originally bred in Canada to retrieve from icy lakes. They are intelligent, energetic and highly people-focused dogs who thrive on connection and learning. Tollers are known for their friendly nature, trainability and love of both play and work, making them well suited to roles such as wellbeing support.
Our puppy is now eight weeks old, and remains with her litter while she continues to grow and develop during these important early weeks. Her favourite toys are her ball pit - she loves digging and tossing the balls everywhere for someone else to clean up! She also adores water and is discovering that playing with the hose is great fun. Her favourite food is chicken, and she loves to sleep flat on her back with her paws in the air.
In time, she will begin a carefully planned introduction to the school, supported by Dogs Connect and our core team, who are preparing to integrate her into classrooms and across the whole school in a safe and meaningful way.
We look forward to sharing updates as this exciting journey unfolds. We are confident that this initiative will strengthen our wellbeing programs and bring lasting benefits to our students and staff.
It is a very exciting time for LPS, and we cannot wait for you to meet our newest team member.
