Ballarat Young Authors’ Program

Our Young Authors of 2026 enjoyed a wonderful day celebrating their creativity, dedication and achievements as writers at the historic Ballarat Mechanics’ Institute. Students had the exciting opportunity to meet authors Louise Woodruff Sanz and John Kachoyan, ask questions and gain valuable insights into the world of writing. They also embraced the opportunity to explore their creativity during an engaging poetry workshop before discovering the fascinating history of the Institute on a guided tour. A particular highlight was venturing into the underground areas of the building, where students explored hidden spaces and intriguing historical features, including mysterious witch marks!

The celebrations continued with a visit to the award-winning Collins Booksellers, where each student received a $25 book voucher to select a book of their choice as a special keepsake from their Young Authors experience. It was a fantastic way to conclude the Young Authors Program and celebrate the incredible effort, enthusiasm and growth our students have demonstrated throughout their writing journeys. We are so proud of our young authors and all they have accomplished!

Assessment and Reporting – Term 4

As we approach the end of the school year, teachers will be busy finalising assessments and preparing Semester 2 student reports. These reports provide families with an overview of their child’s learning, progress and achievements throughout the semester.

End-of-year reports will be available to parents and carers via Compass on Friday 4th December.

Families will also have the opportunity to meet with classroom and specialist teachers to discuss their child’s progress, celebrate achievements and look ahead to the next stage of learning.

Parent–Teacher Interviews will be held on:

• Monday 7 December: 4:00–6:00 pm

• Wednesday 9 December: 1:30–5:00 pm

We look forward to celebrating the learning and growth of our students as we conclude another busy and rewarding school year.

Swimming Reminder

Coming up in week 4 (Oct 26-30) we have 2AA, 2CV, Prep classes and Year 1 classes  will be participating in swimming. If you have a child in one of those classes, please ensure that you complete consent and payment on Compass prior to your child’s swimming week and if you have any questions, please contact the office.

Many classes require parent helpers to assist with student supervision and changerooms, so if that is something that you are available to help out with, please contact your child’s classroom teacher for further details on how you can get involved.  

All volunteers require a current Working with Children Check on record with our office and are required to complete a Child Safe Code of Conduct form.
