Thinking of Purchasing a Smartwatch, Mobile Phone, Audio Devices or Wearable Technology for Christmas?
With Christmas just around the corner, we know many families may be starting to think about Christmas gifts, and that mobile phones, smartwatches and other electronic devices are often high on children's wish lists!
Before making any purchases, we wanted to give families a friendly heads-up about upcoming changes to Victorian government school rules around personal electronic devices from 2027.
While mobile phones must already be switched off and stored away during the school day, the updated requirements will also cover smartwatches, wearable technology and personal audio devices, such as AirPods.
We encourage families to keep these changes in mind when Christmas shopping, particularly if purchasing a device your child may hope to use or wear at school.
You can read more about the current requirements in the Department of Education's Mobile Phones – Student Use Policy.
We will share further information with families about the 2027 changes later in the year.
Ballarat Children’s Week 2026
There's plenty of FREE family fun happening across Ballarat for Children’s Week, from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November!
The City of Ballarat has organised a fantastic range of activities, including arts and crafts, nature adventures, storytelling, workshops and more.
This year's theme celebrates every child's right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion, with a special focus on identity and belonging.
There’s something for children of all ages, including activities right here in Buninyong!
Families can also get involved at home with the Children's Week drawing activity, encouraging children to share what belonging looks and feels like to them.
Check out the full program of free activities and make the most of Children’s Week!
First Aid Training for All Students
Last week, we were pleased to welcome St John Ambulance to Buninyong Primary School on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October to deliver First Aid training to all students.
Each class participated in an age-appropriate session, learning important first aid and emergency response skills. Students explored what to do in an emergency, how to seek help and some simple first aid techniques, helping them build the confidence to respond when someone needs assistance.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop practical, potentially life-saving skills they can use at school, at home and in the wider community.
A big thank you to St John Ambulance for providing these valuable sessions free of charge. It was wonderful to see our students so engaged and enthusiastic about learning how to help others!
Here are a few photos of our students putting their new skills into practice!
Reminder: Please Do Not Use the Bus Zone as a Drop-Off Area
We’ve noticed a number of cars using the bus zone in Simpson Street as a quick drop-off or pick-up area. Please remember this is not permitted and creates safety risks for our students, as well as congestion for buses.
It’s important that all families follow road rules and posted parking signs to help us keep our school environment safe for everyone.
For families who prefer a convenient “drop and go” option, please use our dedicated zone near the gym (corner of Inglis and Yuille Streets). This area has a 2-minute parking limit for quick drop-offs and pick-ups.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping all children safe.
Walk and Talk
What an incredible effort this morning everyone! We completed an amazing 580 laps of the oval, covering a whopping 127.6 kilometres!
Each class is competing against our EBT team, who were away today and have given everyone else a head start. EBT, have got their work cut out for them if they want to catch up!
🏆 Today's Class Leaderboard:🥇 1st Place: 4AG – 96 laps!🥈 2nd Place: 2KG – 89 laps!
Amazing effort from everyone who got involved today!
See you Thursday morning 8:20 on the oval for our next Walk and Talk and to see which class ends up with the Trophy for the week.
School disco
HEROES and VILLAINS!
The battle is on! Our school disco is coming, and we’re calling on all our heroes and villains to get dressed up and hit the dance floor! (or casual clothes if dressing up is not your thing)
Get ready for an epic night of music, dancing, costumes and plenty of fun!
Let the disco begin! Tickets can be purchased through Compass
Bunjil Awards
Bunjil awards recognise student achievement and those who display our school values of being respectful, responsible and kind. Well done! All of our weekly winners enjoyed a hot chocolate or zooper dooper with a principal. This process is always a great chance for us to hear from the kids and ask them some questions about our school.
