 3/4 CLASSROOM

Welcome back to Term 4, Year 3/4 families! We are looking forward to a busy term filled with learning and new experiences. The students have settled well back into their regular routines. It has been lovely to hear about their holiday adventures and see them reconnect with their classmates.

Reminders

  • Our Year 3/4 camp is coming up on 22–23 October! Camp information was sent home earlier this week. Please take some time to read through it if you haven’t already, and return medication authority forms by Wednesday 14 October.
  • Sport will be on Wednesdays during Weeks 1–5. Please ensure your child wears their sports uniform.
  • Students have received their homework for Week 2. This term, homework will come home on Fridays and is due back the following Friday, along with diaries.
  • Please remind your child to record their home reading in their diary, including the book title and pages read. Regular reading at home helps build fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and confidence.

Thank you for supporting your child with their learning at home.

Our Learning

In Maths, we have been exploring decimals and their equivalent fractions. Students have also been practising adding decimals together.

In English, we have begun our new class novel, His Name Was Walter. Students have found its interesting characters and storylines quite different from the other novels we have read this year. The “book within a book” structure has prompted some thoughtful discussions. We have also started writing narratives, with students planning their characters and settings. I am looking forward to reading their completed stories!

In Spelling, we have focused on possessive apostrophes. Students have been learning when and why to use them to show ownership in their writing.

In Religion, we have begun our unit, Jesus Models Forgiveness. Students explored different scenarios and considered how each person could respond to a difficult situation. This has opened up discussions about forgiveness, compassion, and moving forward.

In Sport, we practised individual skipping before working with the larger rope. The students’ confidence has grown enormously. I am proud of their willingness to try something outside their comfort zone and encourage one another.

In Inquiry, we were excited to begin our topic, Ancient Greece. We have explored where Greece is located on a map and compared Ancient Greece with Greece today. Students have also begun learning about its lasting contributions to society, including democracy and the Olympic Games.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to sharing our learning and celebrating the students’ achievements throughout the term.
