F/1/2 Classroom

Welcome back to Term 4!
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. It has been wonderful to welcome our F/1/2 students back to school this week. Students have settled back into our classroom routines beautifully and have returned with lots of enthusiasm and positive energy for our final term together.
It is hard to believe we are already in Term 4! We have another busy and exciting term ahead, with lots more learning, special events and opportunities to celebrate the wonderful progress our students continue to make.
Back into Learning
Students have settled back into their classroom routines beautifully this week and have jumped straight back into their learning with enthusiasm and positive attitudes. It has been wonderful to see their growing independence and confidence as we begin our final term together.
Literacy
Students have continued developing their reading, spelling and writing skills through our Initial Lit, Initial Write and Storybook lessons. Across the year levels, students have been working on different spelling patterns, sentence writing and comprehension skills, while also enjoying opportunities to share ideas and respond to stories.
Mathematics
Our Foundation and Year 1 students have begun exploring sharing and grouping, using hands-on materials to investigate equal groups and develop their mathematical thinking. Year 2 students have continued working on addition, subtraction and multiplication, applying different strategies to solve problems.
Students have also been completing their regular testing to monitor their learning and progress throughout the year. It has been fantastic to see the effort and persistence students are demonstrating as they settle back into their learning.
Auslan
In Auslan this term, the F-2 students will be focusing on colours, animals, fingerspelling the alphabet, and numbers. This week they started their learning by revising their knowledge of fingerspelling the alphabet and numbers as a group and reflecting on their favourite animals and colours individually.
Handwriting
The Foundation and Grade 1 students have started explicit handwriting sessions on a Wednesday. These sessions will focus on developing letter formation and sizing, as well as building up stamina and correct body positioning for extended writing. This week the students completed a pre-assessment where their writing behaviours and letter formations were observed.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I am looking forward to a wonderful final term with our F/1/2 students and cannot wait to see all that they continue to achieve!
Term 4 Reminders
Readers & Diaries: Please return all reader folders to school as soon as possible so we can get our Term 4 home reading routines underway. Students will receive their new Term 4 diaries to use alongside their home reading. Each Monday, readers will be checked and sent back home for the week.
Thank you for continuing to support reading at home, it makes such a difference to students' confidence and progress.
Hats: As we return to our SunSmart routines for Term 4, students will need their school hat each day. Hats are kept at school in our classroom hat pockets.
Sport: Due to the nature of our upcoming presentation, “In Here, Out There,” with the Under the Creative Hood team, our sports schedule may look a little different over the next few weeks. Students are welcome to wear their sports uniform every Tuesday and Wednesday until after the presentation.
