Our Year 11 HASS in Action students have been bringing learning to life through service, curiosity and collaboration as part of their study of community services.

Throughout the term, students have explored the important role that community members play in supporting others. To put their learning into action, they have been assisting our Year 2 students with their inquiry learning project, helping them investigate some big and exciting questions about the world around them.

The Year 2 students have been exploring topics ranging from gems and crystals to volcanoes, multi-coloured markers and spinning tops. Working alongside the younger students, the Year 11s have helped them discover answers through hands-on investigations and experiments.

Together, students have:

• Created their own gems and crystals to explore how these fascinating formations are made.

• Built and tested a volcano to investigate explosions and chemical reactions.

• Designed and constructed LEGO spinning tops to learn about motion and forces.

• Pulled apart multi-coloured markers to discover how different colours combine to create the inks we use every day.

   

The project has provided valuable opportunities for students of all ages to learn from one another. While the Year 2 students benefited from the support and expertise of their older peers, the Year 11 students developed their leadership, communication and mentoring skills.

This cross-age learning experience has been a wonderful example of our school community working together, with older students inspiring curiosity, encouraging discovery and helping younger learners develop confidence in asking questions and exploring solutions.
