Dear Families and Friends

We are well into Term Three and the College is buzzing with activity, enthusiasm and purposeful learning. Across our classrooms, sporting fields, rehearsal spaces and co-curricular programs, students have embraced the many opportunities available to them this semester and have made a positive start to the term.

One of the things I enjoy most about a busy term is that no two days are ever the same. In the space of a week, we have celebrated success on the sporting field, gathered in prayer, recognised the significance of NAIDOC Week and watched our students shine on stage. Each experience is different, but they all have something in common. They remind us that education is about much more than academic achievement. It is about helping young people discover their gifts, grow in confidence, serve others and find where they can make a positive contribution.

Junior School Inter-School Cross Country Champions

There are some achievements that deserve special recognition, and our recent Junior School Inter-School Cross Country Championship is certainly one of them.

To be named Inter-School Cross Country Champions is a wonderful achievement and reflects not only the talent of our young athletes, but also their determination, perseverance and willingness to give their very best.

What pleased me most, however, was the way every student contributed to the team’s success. Whether they finished at the front of the field or simply pushed themselves to the finish line, every student played an important role. They encouraged one another, represented the College with humility and sportsmanship, and demonstrated what it means to work together towards a common goal.

Congratulations to all of our students on this outstanding achievement, and thank you to the staff and families whose support helped make it possible.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations

Last week, our College community marked NAIDOC Week through a range of meaningful prayer experiences, learning opportunities and celebrations. These provided students and staff with the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, ‘50 Years of Deadly’, celebrates five decades of recognising the strength, resilience and enduring contributions of First Nations peoples. It honours those who have shaped the NAIDOC movement while reminding us of the importance of continuing to learn from the wisdom, stories and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

A highlight of the week was our Primary School NAIDOC Mass, where students gathered in prayer and reflection to honour the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of First Nations peoples. The vibrant classroom door displays created by our Primary students and teachers were another wonderful expression of learning, creativity and connection to Country.

As a Catholic community, NAIDOC Week invites us to listen, learn and walk together. It reminds us that respect is built through relationships and that we all have a responsibility to contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways.

College Production – Party to Die For

On Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of attending our College production, Party to Die For, and what a fantastic night it was! Our students were simply outstanding. Their confidence, talent and energy on stage made us incredibly proud, and it was wonderful to see them enjoying the experience so much.

What also struck me was just how many people had contributed to making the production such a success. A show like this takes an enormous amount of work, much of which happens behind the scenes. From rehearsals and costumes to sets, lighting, sound and all the jobs that audiences never see, it was a genuine team effort.

My congratulations to every student involved and my sincere thanks to the many staff who gave their time and talents to support them. In particular, I acknowledge our Design, Technologies and The Arts Learning Area Co-ordinator, Mrs Rachael Knight, whose leadership, passion and countless hours of work brought it all together.

It was a wonderful night for Salvado and one that our students and staff should be very proud of.

Senior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival

Last Friday, our Senior School students enjoyed a fantastic Inter-House Athletics Carnival, with beautiful weather, spirited competition and plenty of House pride.

While there were many impressive individual performances, what stood out most was the encouragement students showed one another throughout the day. It was pleasing to see students challenge themselves, celebrate each other’s achievements and demonstrate our College values of Peace, Justice and Compassion in such practical ways.

My thanks to our staff and student leaders whose organisation and enthusiasm made the day such a success. We now look forward to announcing the Champion House at our Secondary Assembly in Week 5 and to our Junior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival in Week 6.

Planning for 2027

Although it still feels early, planning for the 2027 school year is already well underway.

If your child will not be returning to Salvado Catholic College in 2027, I ask that you provide written notice to the College before the end of this term. Early notification is essential in assisting us with enrolments, staffing, timetabling and planning for the year ahead.

I also take this opportunity to remind families that, in accordance with the College’s Conditions of Enrolment, one full term’s written notice is required when withdrawing a student. Where the required notice is not provided, a term’s tuition fees will be payable in lieu of notice.
