Child Safety Officer

At Leighland Christian School, the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of every child and young person is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a learning environment where students feel safe, respected, heard and supported to thrive.

As part of this commitment, our school actively implements and promotes the Tasmanian Child and Youth Safe Standards, which form part of Tasmania's Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework. These standards help organisations create cultures, policies and practices that protect children and young people from harm and promote their wellbeing.

The ten Child and Youth Safe Standards focus on ensuring that:

Child safety and wellbeing are embedded in leadership, governance and culture.
Children and young people know their rights, are listened to and taken seriously.
Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting safety and wellbeing.
Equity is upheld and diversity is respected.
People working with children are suitable, well supported and committed to child safety.
Complaints and concerns are handled through child-focused processes.
Staff and volunteers receive ongoing training and education.
Physical and online environments promote safety and minimise risks.
Child-safe practices are regularly reviewed and improved.
Policies and procedures clearly document how children and young people are kept safe.
