Year 2 Spotlight

Reading & Writing Procedural Texts
This term the Year 2 students have enjoyed reading and learning how to write procedural texts. Here is an example of coin and leaf rubbings that they had fun doing. Students had to read and follow the step-by-step instructions (the procedure!) to complete this activity.
Health
Students have been learning about Healthy Bodies and Healthy Relationships this term. They enjoyed making health studios that reflected their understanding of healthy choices that they can make in their life. Students participated in a Mind and Body incursion where they enjoyed a series of mindfulness activities and doing yoga.
Students’ wrote a recount of their incursion experience. Here are some of the students' accounts of the event.
Recount, by Emily, 2A
Yesterday we had an incursion in the Old Hall. A person came to our school to instruct us.
Firstly, we went to the hall to meet 2B, then we could start the incursion.
Secondly, we talked about things to keep us happy and then we went to our mats, and got started.
Our first activity was to use our imagination and do poses like mountains and trees. We also did poses like flowers and then listened to music. At the end we were given glow stones. It was a great incursion.
Recount, Maggie, 2A
Yesterday at the incursion we listened to music. We also used our imagination to be animals and trees. I enjoyed doing the stretches and poses including the animal noises.
We learnt how to treat our bodies and mind in a healthy way. My favourite animal pose was the cow.
At the end we got glow stones from the instructor.
Recount, Clover, 2A
On Wednesday, 10th June, we did quiet activities in the old hall. We listened to music through headphones and did special yoga poses. My favourite part was putting our bodies into different shapes.
Recount, Jessie, 2A
I enjoyed our healthy body/healthy mind incursion. I did lots of yoga poses and my favourite one was the cow. We wore headphones and listened to music to keep us calm. It was really fun.
Recount, by Edith, 2A
The first thing we did was go onto a yoga mat. I was standing next to Ashley and Emily, and we all had to put headphones on. We listened to music and made animal shapes. We also did yoga poses, and moved around the room to different mats trying the different poses.
The last thing we did was to lie down on the mat and were asked to imagine seeing our favourite person at the beach.
Maths – Shape Monsters
In Maths, students have worked on addition and subtraction. More recently, they have been learning about 2D shapes. Here are some examples of shape monsters that students have constructed:
