PREP

Students have thoroughly enjoyed exploring fairy tales this term. Through reading, discussing and responding to a range of traditional stories, they have developed their understanding of characters, settings, problems and solutions. Students particularly enjoyed examining the actions and choices of different characters and expressing their ideas through speaking, drawing and writing activities. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm as they engaged with these much-loved stories.

Preps recently enjoyed spending time with their Grade 6 buddies creating pet rocks together. This fun activity provided an opportunity for students to build positive relationships across year levels while expressing their creativity. Students carefully designed and decorated their pet rocks, giving them unique personalities and names. It was lovely to see the collaboration, encouragement and friendship shared between the younger and older students throughout the activity.

Year 1

Over the past few weeks of term 2, Year 1 students have been exploring time and patterns & algebra in Math.

In their study of time students have been engaging in a range of activities against the clock to get an idea of how long it takes to do something. Some examples; students would build the biggest tower they could in one minute or write their name as many times as possible using rainbow colours in two minutes.

In patterns & algebra, students have been making patterns with different objects as well as exploring number patterns with skip counting.

In Science, we’ve been learning about chemical sciences, how different liquids react with one another. Students have investigated what happens when we mix oil and water, milk and cereal, and sand and water. Students have predicted whether the materials will mix, whether the properties of the material will change or stay the same.

Students have been using vocabulary such as invisible, visible, mixture and dissolves to help describe what happens to the materials when mixed.

Term 2 has been so busy for our grade 1s as they have been engaging in a range of activities to help them grow as lifelong learners.

The grade 1 teachers would like to thank the whole grade one cohort for the hard work they have put in for semester one and hope they have a well-deserved break over school holidays so that they can come back refreshed and energised for term 3.

Grade 2 Excursion – Shrine of Remembrance and Royal Botanic Gardens

On Thursday 11 June 2026, our Grade 2 students participated in a meaningful and enriching excursion to the Shrine of Remembrance and the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria as part of their Humanities unit, Celebrations and Commemorations.

During our visit to the Shrine of Remembrance, students engaged thoughtfully with the significance of remembrance and service. A particularly memorable moment was hearing the Ode of Remembrance read by an ex-serviceman, providing students with a powerful connection to the commemorative practices they have been exploring in class. Prior to the excursion, students created a poppy, which they respectfully placed in the Remembrance Bowl.

This personal act of commemoration encouraged students to reflect on the importance of remembering and commemorating those who have served and sacrificed for their country.

In the afternoon, students visited the Royal Botanic Gardens, where they further developed their observational skills in support of our Writing unit on narrative nonfiction. Drawing connections to the mentor text Swiftly and The Bush Birds, students immersed themselves in the natural environment, carefully observing birds, plants, sounds, colours, textures, and movement. These firsthand experiences will provide valuable inspiration and authentic details for their own writing.

The excursion provided a rich opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of both historical commemoration and the natural world through experiential learning. We were extremely proud of the way Grade 2 represented our school, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and engagement throughout the day.

We extend our sincere thanks to families for ensuring students were well prepared and ready to make the most of this valuable learning experience.
