Jazz Cabaret

Last night School jazz groups and soloists performed with Michelle Scully, Georgia Brooks, Kym Dillon and Sean Loughran at Music Support’s Jazz Cabaret. It was an amazing night of music, and our students showed incredible resilience and courage to get up and perform improvised solos with exceptional professional musicians. Students were also lucky enough to participate in a jazz workshop prior to the cabaret, learning about feels and the role of the rhythm section in jazz music. Many people worked hard to make this night happen. Special mentions to Michelle Scully, BHS parent and amazing bassist, who organised the musicians and planned such a great program. Joel Gladman, music support convener made sure everything behind the scenes was in place for a great night.

Many thanks to the Senior band students, friends and supporters who sold toasties and jewellery to raise money for their 2026 Sydney tour. This event exemplifies the learning and fun that happens when parents, teachers and students work together towards a common goal.

VET MUSIC NEWS

BHS VET Band ‘The Routine’ performed at the Come Together festival on Sunday August 31st, and won a slot at the Queenscliff Festival!  Massive congratulations to Jack, Grace, Lola, Hibiki and El for this achievement, and keep an eye on this band, they are definitely one to watch!

VET Year 1 ‘Barwon Battle’

Year 1 VET Music students are planning and staging a Battle of the Bands at the Barwon Club on Wednesday September 10th, from 6.30pm. This is their Music Industry work task.

Bands from schools across Geelong are invited to be part of the event, with great prizes up for grabs. 

There are great prizes up for grabs, including Studio Recording time at Oxygen’s ‘Don’t Poke the Bear studios, gift vouchers from Music Workshop and $500 in backline hire from Albatross hire.

Tickets $15 at the door

Year 1 and 2 VET Bands are performing at Oxygen Livespace on Monday September 15th, from 6.30pm. This is the last chance to hear our Year 2 Bands ahead of their VCE Performance exams, so come and enjoy the show! Entry is free.
