STEM – Girls as Leaders in STEM (GALS Program 2025)
Thanks to Ivy Roe and Evelyn Branson who have welcomed our GALS Ambassador – Yemurayi Chotto from Deakin University into BHS last Wednesday. This was a great opportunity to showcase some of the STEM classes in action. Yemurayi was able to survey students about engineering and get some feedback for her project in designing play spaces for young people.
Thanks to Mr Webb, Mr Healey, Ms Donald, Ms Washington and Ms Cantwell for allowing Yemurayi to visit classes and interact with students.
Further news in STEM: we invite Year 7 and 8 girls to be a part of the GALS program led by Deakin University in Term 4. There will be more information and a meeting scheduled in coming weeks.
GALS is designed as a hands-on, interactive STEM program, developing leadership skills in STEM. Girls in Years 5-8 work in small collaborative teams to develop a STEM industry inspired project to share with the community. The girls use STEM to create an innovative project to solve real world problems!
The GALS planner is a helpful guide to assist with organising the GALS project at your school. It outlines STEM design thinking elements and ways to integrate them into your project planning. We know each school will have their own unique way of organising their projects so go for it! We are excited to see the brilliant project ideas your girls will create.
Thanks to Mr Featherston, Ms Washington, Ms Evenden and Ms Lewis for supporting GALS.
