SPORTING EXCELLENCE – AUSTRALIAN ATHLETICS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Year 7 student Jared S recently competed at the Australian Athletics Cross Country Championships held in Ballarat. Jared was selected to represent Victoria because of his strong performance placing 12th at the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships. Jared competed in the U14B 3000m event and placed 33rd out of 83 competitors with a time of 10:40. Congratulations Jared!

Year 11 student Robbie P competed in the U18B 6000m event placing 33rd out of 51 competitors with a time of 21:06. A fantastic effort in a highly competitive field. Congratulations and well done Robbie!

WAVERLEY DIVISION ATHLETICS

Approximately 150 students took to Bill Sewart Athletics Track on Friday the 22nd of August for the Waverley Division Athletics. It was a fantastic day on the track and out in the field with many fantastic team and individual performances.

Vermont blitzed the competition amassing 1353 points and winning the grand aggregate shield. The next closest school finished the day with 1099 points.

Vermont won the junior shield with 434 points, the intermediate shield with 457 points and the senior shield with 462 points.

A result like this is absolutely not possible without the commitment of students turning up, participating in their events, and filling gaps in vacant spots due to illness, injury, absence of others.

All students involved should be incredibly proud. We now turn our focus to the EMR Track & Field Championships on Monday the 13th of October. For the past two years Vermont has been successful in winning the EMR Track & Field event, let’s see what 2025’s team can do!

Age group champions:

U16G Anna P, 48 points in 5 events

U20G Samantha P, 46 points in 5 events

EMR FINALS

Senior Boys/Mixed Basketball

Well done to our senior boys' basketball team competing at regionals. Although we didn’t win any of our three games against Rowville, Templestowe or Lilydale, the team put in a tremendous effort and kept trying all day.
