With the rise of smartphones, tablets, and constant online access, the nature of bullying has changed. What was once confined to the schoolyard can now continue around the clock, leaving many young people feeling as though they can’t escape it. This makes teaching children about online safety just as important as teaching them to swim or cross the road safely.
Cyberbullying is defined as repeated behaviour by an aggressor with the intent to harm, humiliate, or embarrass. The speed and reach of digital technology make this form of bullying particularly harmful. However, avoiding technology is not the solution. Parents are encouraged to embrace the digital world while establishing healthy family guidelines around internet use, helping children stay protected while still being able to learn, connect, and explore online.
To support these conversations at home, we encourage parents to explore the Cyberbullying edition of SchoolTV, which offers practical advice to help families reduce risks and foster safe, healthy online habits.

From a school perspective, we have been equipping students with essential online safety skills through curriculum initiatives, annual workshops, and programs such as Project Rockit and Brainstorm Productions.
Next Wednesday, our Year 7 cohort will participate in an interactive performance called The Flip Side, presented by Brainstorm Productions. This engaging production highlights the importance of personal responsibility, empathy, respect, and resilience in the online world.
Through thought-provoking scenarios, The Flip Side sparks conversations about what is humorous, toxic, private, humiliating, informative, safe, or appropriate online. Students are encouraged to think critically about their online values and behaviour, while gaining strategies for empathy, resilience, help-seeking, and positive bystander action.
