Science Inquiry: Exploring, Investigating, Creating and Sharing at our Open Afternoon!

Term Four is set to be an exciting time for Science Inquiry at Glen Waverley Primary School, with students across all year levels exploring questions about the world around them.

Across the school, students will be observing, questioning, experimenting, designing and problem-solving as they investigate a diverse range of scientific concepts. Our youngest scientists will begin by exploring familiar phenomena, investigating how sounds are produced and experienced and observing celestial objects and patterns in the sky. In the middle years, students will build their understanding of scientific concepts by investigating forces, weather and climate, making observations, testing ideas and exploring real-world connections. In the upper years, students will apply and extend their scientific knowledge to tackle more complex challenges, investigating heat, sustainable design, climate change and the interconnected systems that sustain life on Earth.

A strong focus across our Science Inquiry units is connecting scientific learning to the world beyond the classroom. Students will consider how science helps us understand everyday experiences, solve problems and respond to challenges facing people and our environment. They will also explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledge, recognising the important role of culture and connection to Country in understanding the world around us.

Throughout their investigations, students will have opportunities to think and work like scientists and designers: asking questions, making observations, testing ideas, analysing evidence and developing creative solutions. From creating sound performances and models demonstrating forces, to designing sustainable solutions, students will be encouraged to apply their scientific knowledge in meaningful and engaging ways.

To celebrate learning we are delighted to invite families to our Science Inquiry Open Afternoon on Thursday 26th November from 2:30-3:30pm. This special afternoon will provide an opportunity to step inside our classrooms and see Science Inquiry come to life.

Families will be able to discover the questions students have been exploring, see their investigations and creations, and hear students share their scientific thinking and discoveries.

We look forward to welcoming our families and sharing an afternoon of wonder, discovery and science!
