Year 3/4 News
Leannder, Dilan, and Soraya
This term, students have been actively engaged in developing their skills across all learning areas.
We have been learning how illustrations contribute to the mood of a text and how to infer character thoughts and feelings using clues. Students have explored how images and written language work together to deepen understanding, and have practised using evidence from the text to support their inferences. They have also been learning to ask questions before, during and after reading to strengthen comprehension, identifying different types of questions and creating their own thoughtful questions to build curiosity and understanding.
In Writing, students are focusing on identifying and using adverb phrases and prepositional phrases to add detail to their sentences. They have examined how authors use these phrases to make writing more descriptive and engaging, and are applying this in their own writing. Students have also been learning to identify the important parts of a story before writing a retell, using planning strategies to organise key events and details before independently writing their own retell of a familiar text.
Students are learning about how Earth’s movements have influenced the way humans measure time. They have been developing their understanding of time by reading, representing and interpreting both analogue and digital clocks. Students have also been learning to collect and organise data using tally marks, represent data using pictographs, and interpret and analyse the information presented.
We also recently had Brainstorm Productions visit our school for an incursion, where students watched an engaging and informative performance focused on bullying. The session provided valuable messages about respectful relationships and how to respond to challenging situations.
It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence and curiosity across all learning areas!
