Wow, what a busy Term 3 we have had in PE. All students have put in 100% during each PE lesson, it has been fantastic to see so many students improve their basic sports skills.
On Friday, June 19th, all Year 5/6 students will participate in the Oakleigh District Gala Day. Our students will be part of either mixed or girls' teams in soccer, netball, or volleyball. I wish all the teams the best of luck and would like to extend a big thank you to the four volunteer parent coaches who will be assisting on the day. A student recount from each of the six teams will be included in the upcoming newsletter after the Term 2 holidays.
During the first three weeks of Term 3, there will be a tennis incursion during all PE lessons. Professional tennis coaches will coach students, and I am confident that all students will truly enjoy the experience.
Students from Years 3 to 6 have been diligently training during lunch breaks this term for their track and field events at the upcoming District Athletics. This event is scheduled to take place towards the end of Term 3. At the beginning of Term 3, a Compass Event notice will be published for parents to provide consent and make payments so their child can participate in this event. Students will continue their lunchtime training in the weeks leading up to District Athletics.
Additionally, there will be a six-week focus on AFL (Australian Rules Football) during Term 3. Students will learn essential skills for AFL and participate in modified games.

It was a special experience for our Year 3/4 students to have their woven animal sculptures displayed in a public gallery as part of the recent Youth Art for Reconciliation Exhibition. Thank you to all the families who attended and supported our students at this meaningful event. It was wonderful to see their creativity celebrated within the wider community.

Clay Modelling
Over the past few weeks, students across all year levels have been developing their clay modelling skills and exploring a range of sculpting techniques. Foundation students created colourful clay birds inspired by the Aboriginal Dreamtime story How the Birds Got Their Colours. Year 1/2 students have been sculpting clay penguins, while Year 3/4 students are modelling self-portraits inspired by the work of artist Barbara Reid. Year 5/6 students have been designing and creating their own imaginative pinch pots. We are excited to share some examples of their work in progress.

Finally, I would like to share that I will be taking a year’s leave to pursue an exciting new career opportunity in Disability Inclusion. It has been a privilege to teach the students of CNPS and to watch their confidence, creativity and artistic skills grow over the years. Thank you for your support and encouragement throughout my time in Visual Arts. I know our students will be in wonderful hands with their new Visual Arts teacher in Semester 2.
