The beginning of a new semester brings exciting new learning and creative opportunities in the Art Room!

Our Prep students are beginning their exploration of lines and shapes this term. They have already been busy brainstorming the many ways lines are used in art and discovering just how many words can be used to describe different kinds of lines.

Grade 1 students have started their journey into the world of printmaking. They are exploring the work of artist Margaret Molinari, who incorporates found objects into her relief printing process. During their first lesson, students experimented with printing using their own collection of found objects, creating a range of interesting patterns and textures.

Grade 2 students are putting the finishing touches on their beautiful clay fish sculptures. These artworks were created during Term 2 and fired in the kiln over the holidays, making them ready to be brought to life with shimmering pearlescent paints.

Similarly, our Grade 3 students have welcomed back their ceramic Noughts and Crosses boards from the kiln and have begun applying the first layers of colour to their creations this week.

For Grade 4, architecture is providing plenty of inspiration. Students are designing detailed streetscapes in a chosen architectural style before enhancing their work with vibrant watercolour paints.

Grade 5 students will be inspired by the work of talented paint and textile artist Ana Falceta. Through studying colour combinations and exploring how colour can influence feelings and emotions, students will create expressive abstract paintings which they will then embellish with hand embroidery techniques.

In Grade 6, students have been learning about the major forms of printmaking and will soon begin creating their own designs using the linocut method. Their prints will be transferred onto a variety of surfaces, allowing students to explore the versatility of this traditional printmaking technique.
