PE NEWS

Major sporting events are taking place around the world at the moment. We’ve just enjoyed the excitement of Wimbledon, our Aussie women claimed the T20 World Cup title, the gruelling Tour de France is halfway through the stages, and the FIFA World Cup is about to reach its climax. Very soon, the Commonwealth Games will also be underway.
Term 3 is another BIG term at Great Ryrie, with several exciting sporting events on the calendar.
- In early August, selected students from Years 3–4 and Years 5–6 will represent our school in the Hoop Time Basketball Competition.
- Our two-week Whole School Swimming Program begins at the end of August. If you haven’t already done so, please complete your payment and provide consent via Compass by 1 August.
- On Thursday, 3 September, a number of students from Years 3–6 will proudly represent Great Ryrie at the District Athletics Carnival after qualifying through our school competition.
We wish all of our competitors the very best of luck and look forward to hearing about their achievements.
This term, our junior students will be developing their fundamental movement skills, with a focus on bouncing and striking. Prep to Year 2 students will possibly participate in a gymnastics unit, where they will build their balance, coordination and confidence through a range of fun and engaging activities.
To prepare for the Hoop Time Basketball Competition, students in Years 3–6 will be learning the game of basketball and developing the key skills required to play successfully, including dribbling, passing, shooting and defending. Later in the term, they will begin a cricket unit, where they will learn the fundamental skills and strategies of the game.
Exciting news - Outside basketball courts improvements. Two of the basketball backboards and all of the rings have been replaced, as well as new chain nets for each ring.
