VCE Legal Studies – Step Up!
VCE Legal Studies students finished off a successful Step Up Program by performing a criminal mock trial of a stalking case.
Students played all the relevant parts from the accused to the alleged, from the hard-working solicitors, to the verbose barristers, as well as the judge, judge’s associate, tipstaff, witnesses, custodial officer, jury members and foreperson.
With only a few simple props such as wigs and a gavel (acknowledging, of course, that these were for theatrical purposes only) a classroom was transformed temporarily into the County Court of Victoria.
While the trial was obviously abridged in order to fit into a lesson, but students gained a brief insight into the processes and procedures involved. This experience will set the students in good stead for their studies of the Victorian justice system in 2026.
