Assistant Principals Report

End Of Term 4:

Assistant Principal's Report

Positive Climate for Learning

Term 4 has been an exceptional period for our South Oakleigh College community, filled with significant events, celebrations, and important transitions as we prepare for the year ahead. Our students have demonstrated outstanding commitment, resilience, and school spirit across all activities.

College Captains Represent at Remembrance Day

We are proud to share that our 2026 College Captains, River and Abigail, represented South Oakleigh College with distinction at the Remembrance Day commemoration ceremony in Oakleigh. On November 11th, they joined community leaders, veterans, and residents to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country. River and Abigail conducted themselves with maturity and respect throughout the ceremony, laying a wreath on behalf of our college community.

Semester 2 Examinations Completed

All students have successfully completed their Semester 2 examinations, demonstrating dedication and perseverance throughout the assessment period. These examinations provide valuable opportunities for students to consolidate their learning, develop exam technique, and demonstrate their understanding across all subject areas. We have been impressed by the mature approach our students took to their exam preparation and the focused effort they displayed during the examination period.

Year Level Assemblies Celebrate Student Success

Throughout Term 4, we have held year level assemblies to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students. These assemblies have been wonderful opportunities to acknowledge academic excellence, exemplary behaviour, leadership contributions, and positive attitude across all aspects of school life. Students have been recognized for achievements including:

  • Academic excellence and improvement
  • Outstanding attendance and punctuality
  • Contribution to sport, arts, and extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrating college values

These celebrations are an important part of our college culture, reinforcing the importance of effort, character, and community contribution. We are incredibly proud of all students who received recognition and thank our teaching staff for their dedication in identifying and celebrating student success.

Step Up Program Prepares Students for 2026

Our annual Step-Up Program ran for two weeks, providing all students with the valuable opportunity to transition into their 2026 year level. This important program allows students to experience their new classrooms, meet their future teachers, and familiarize themselves with next year's expectations and routines.

During the Step-Up Program, students participated in:

  • Introductory lessons in their new year level subjects
  • Team-building activities with their future classmates
  • Orientation sessions covering expectations and procedures
  • Goal-setting activities for the upcoming year

Feedback from both students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with students expressing excitement and readiness for 2026.

Welcoming Our 2026 Year 7 Students

We were delighted to welcome our incoming 2026 Year 7 students to South Oakleigh College for Orientation Day. This important program provides our future students with their first official experience of secondary school life and helps ease the transition from primary to secondary education.

Our Peer Support leaders served as excellent ambassadors, sharing their own experiences and offering advice to help ease any concerns. The incoming students demonstrated enthusiasm, curiosity, and readiness for the exciting journey ahead.

Updates to Student Dress Code Policy

Following a comprehensive consultation process, the College is pleased to inform families of several adjustments to the Student Dress Code Policy, which will come into effect at the beginning of the 2026 academic year.

We extend our thanks to all parents, students and staff who contributed feedback during the review. The updated policy can be accessed here: Student Dress Code Policy

In line with Department of Education policy, families may purchase the following non-branded uniform items from retail stores outside of our official uniform supplier:

  • A plain black, non-branded scarf as an alternative to the College black scarf with logo (optional item)

  • Plain black non-branded tailored shorts
  • Plain black non-branded tailored trousers

For PE Practical Classes:

  • Plain black, non-branded sport shorts in place of the College black PE shorts with logo

  • Plain black, non-branded sport track pants in place of the College black PE track pants with logo

Please note that the PE uniform may only be worn on days when students have scheduled PE practical classes or are otherwise directed due to particular events scheduled for the day.

A reminder that casual clothing items, or any items with visible logos other than the school logo (excluding athletic shoe branding), are not permitted.

The College is committed to supporting affordability of our uniform items and will explore a range of suggested options to implement in 2026.

Below is a table that outlines possible uniform combinations across.
