End Of Term 4:
This term, our Year 10 Textiles students celebrated the completion of their custom hoodie project—a major achievement showcasing both creativity and technical skill. Students explored fashion trends and sustainable textile choices, developed design briefs, and created original design concepts for their garments.
A highlight of the project was the creation of personalised surface designs using screen-printing techniques. Students prepared their artwork, created stencils, and printed their designs to add a unique feature to their hoodies.
They then followed a commercial pattern to construct their garments, applying careful sewing, problem-solving, and attention to detail throughout.
The finished hoodies are a testament to the students’ hard work, growing confidence, and developing craftsmanship. Congratulations to all Year 10 Textiles students on producing such impressive final pieces!

This term has been jam-packed in the art rooms. For Step Up, the year 7 (now year 8) students looked at the work of Jeff Koons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balloon_Dog) and created their own balloon dogs using oil pastels. We appreciate their effort, and their artwork is now displayed around the school, showcasing their talent!
Year 9 Visual Communication students have been learning about different kinds of perspective drawing. The VCE cohort of 2026 got straight to work in their arts subjects – lots of creative ideas have already started. They will be expected to start some of their research, drawings, and ideas during their break, as well as get some excellent rest before we hit the 2026 school year!
We want to thank all our dedicated students who have poured their hearts and souls into their artwork this year. We look forward to another exciting year in 2026.

What a year it’s been for the Music Department at South Oakleigh College! Back in March we were visited by Cameron Muncey, lead guitarist for JET. 82 of our instrumental students performed with Cameron on our theatre stage in front of a sold-out audience. Together we presented an exciting rendition of the iconic ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’, which was composed by Mr Muncey himself.
Our Performing Arts Carnival was another major success, as was SOC’s Got Talent, our Spring Concert, our VCE Recital Concert, a number of primary school performances, and of course our fabulous production Beauty and the Beast, directed by Ms Kerryn Hoernel and Music Directed by Ms Sara Neep.
We also saw our biggest-ever group of VCE Music Students through a massive year, each presenting five exam pieces in front of a wide variety of audiences, and finally for a panel of VCAA examiners. We’re very proud of all our students and it’s wonderful to see them reaching these amazing heights.
To all our Instrumental and Classroom Music staff, who make all of these wonderful events possible: Sara Neep, Rachel Sifris, Sam Bennett, Marc Law and Evelyn Wang – thank you!
As we look to 2026 we’re looking forward to a similar performance – this time featuring Mr Mark Evans, original bass guitarist for AC/DC. Keep an eye out for details of that event as tickets will sell out in record time!
