Social/Emotional learning 

We were lucky to have Miss Melissa visit our classroom last Thursday. She came to help our students learn about the difference between being rude and being mean.

The students took part in a fun role-play activity using blocks and different characters. Through the activity, they learnt that being rude can sometimes happen by accident, and we can make things better by saying sorry. Being mean is different because it involves doing something on purpose to hurt someone’s feelings.

It was a great opportunity for our students to think about how their actions can affect others and how they can make positive choices.

Education in Faith 

Over the past fortnight, we have been learning about parables and what they teach us. We learnt that a parable is a special story that Jesus told to teach people an important lesson about God, loving others and making good choices. Students listened to the parables of The Lost Sheep and The Good Samaritan and discussed the important messages they teach us. To consolidate their learning, students created a Parable Mobile to show their understanding.

Maths 

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement. Students have been comparing and ordering objects by height and length, using language such as taller, shorter, longest and shortest. We have also been exploring mass, learning to describe objects as heavy or light and comparing their mass by using hefting and balance scales. Students have enjoyed making predictions and checking which objects are heavier, lighter or about the same.

Writing 

In Writing, we have been looking at The Very Cranky Bear and exploring the characters, problem and solution. We brainstormed new characters and came up with our very own The Very Hungry Crocodile! Students orally retold the story to make sure their ideas made sense and followed the same story structure. They enjoyed using their imagination to create a new story while keeping the familiar structure of The Very Cranky Bear. We have also been practising listening to sentences and using our letter sound knowledge to have a go at writing each word in the sentence.

PMP

On Friday, the students enjoyed participating in PMP, where we practised a range of gross motor skills using the balancing beam, scooter boards and bean bag toss with jumping. These activities help students develop their balance, coordination, body control, strength and spatial awareness. They also encourage students to practise following instructions, taking turns and building confidence. 

A reminder that next week is the Book Week Parade and Grandparents and Special Friends morning. We can't wait to see everyone's book character costumes on Friday 11 September!
