Social & Emotional Learning - Words Matter!

In SEL, we have been exploring what it means to build a positive year-level culture. Through discussion and role play, students have considered the difference between friendly banter, teasing and put-downs, explored intent versus impact, and reflected on how our words can affect others. Our big message has been simple: we all have a part to play in creating a warm Catholic community where people feel safe, respected and included.

Mathematics - Angles

Things have been taking a turn (see what I did there?) in Mathematics as we explore all things angles! Students have been identifying, measuring and constructing different types of angles, before putting their problem-solving skills to work finding missing angles. With plenty of hands-on challenges and some serious protractor skills developing, students are discovering that angles really are everywhere once you start looking for them!

Lightning Premiership

A number of our 5/6 students recently represented the school at the Basketball Lightning Premiership. It was fantastic to see them putting their skills into action, working together as a team, and demonstrating great sportsmanship throughout the day. We are very proud of the way they supported one another and represented our school, well done to all involved!

Business & Economics - Paradise Island

Our Paradise Island inquiry continues, with students exploring how individuals and communities make economic choices when resources are limited. We have been investigating concepts such as scarcity, supply and demand, needs and wants, and how to cost items, with students applying their learning to create their own market stall ideas. It has been fantastic to see them debating their choices, solving problems, and discovering that every business decision requires careful consideration!

Home Learning - Prodigy

I am often asked what families can do to support learning at home. One really fantastic tool that we have available is Prodigy. Through game-based challenges set to individual student levels, students can practise and strengthen skills in both Mathematics and English while working at a level suited to their learning needs. Even a little time spent playing each week is a great way to build confidence, reinforce classroom learning, and sneak in some extra practise without it feeling too much like homework!
