Chemistry Day

Chemistry Day 2026

On the 20th of July, the Year 12 Chemistry students participated in ‘Chemistry Day’ 2026. A buzz of excitement filled SC3 and SC4 as students worked in teams to design their own practical investigation. Students had to manage their time in order to ensure they could formulate an inquiry question, plan how to best conduct the investigation, liaise with Ramma (the school’s lab tech) and carry out the investigation over the day. There was a great level of depth in the investigations conducted and rich conversations occurring amongst students. Following ‘Chemistry Day’, the students analysed and evaluated their data, identified limitations and linked their findings to scientific ideas. They then created a scientific poster to communicate their findings to the rest of the school community.

Having the entire day to work on an investigation is such a fantastic opportunity.  Students could operate like real scientists. Modifying and improving their methods, undertaking repeat trials for reliability and working as teams to begin analysing the data they collected.

A high level of maturity, creativity and scientific thinking was shown by every student on the day, and I can’t wait to share their scientific posters with everyone at Science Fair 2026. Well done everyone!
