Parkdale Athletics Carnival

What a start to the Parkdale Secondary College Athletics Carnival! On Tuesday 4th, students headed to Dolamore Reserve ready to compete, have fun and earn valuable points for their House.

The day kicked off brilliantly, with plenty of energy across the track and field events, along with the ever-popular novelty events. Students were getting involved, cheering on their friends and giving their best as the House competition started to heat up.

Unfortunately, the weather had other ideas! As the clouds rolled in, the rain opened up and continued to fall, eventually forcing the cancellation of the afternoon events. While it wasn't the finish to the day we had hoped for, there were still plenty of great performances and memorable moments throughout the morning.

Students who missed out on their events will still have an opportunity to compete. A list of the remaining events is available on the noticeboard in the gym. If you would like to try out for one of these events, simply add your name to the relevant event sheet. Further information about tryouts will be provided if required.

A huge congratulations to everyone who competed and won their events! These students will now have the opportunity to represent Parkdale at the Kingston Division Athletics Carnival on Thursday 3 September.

Well done to everyone who got involved, supported their House and gave their best on the day. 

Senior Boys AFL - by Adam Paterson

On Thursday the senior boys AFL team took on Frankston, Hallam and Albert Park. The boys were simply fantastic across the day winning their 3 matches in emphatic style. The games were brilliant; there is some amazing talent in this squad. Special mentions for those players that stood out include: Archie Grikis (who kicked 6 in the final), Sam Taylor, Cadell Caffrey, Harry Crosby, Lochie Dance, Lucas Kitto, Ben Linton, Charlie Dean, Harry Salisbury and Jaxson Murphy. We look forward to state finals on Tuesday!

Year 7 Boys Netball - by Courtney Nash

What an incredible achievement for our Year 7 Boys Netball team. They won regionals and are off to State Finals! They had two very close games, they won by 1 point to Dromana College (down by 6 points at 3 quarter time) and won the grand final by 2 points.  

These boys showed so much determination and resilience. Incredible effort considering they’ve never played netball before. Their sportsmanship and positive attitude was amazing. They should be very proud!!

Senior Boys Soccer - Coach Dunne

On Thursday, July 30th, a number of Year 11 and 12 students ventured to the Bentleigh Greens Sporting Complex to complete in the Southern Metropolitan Region Soccer Tournament. 

With a rapid start in our opening match against Elisabeth Murdoch College, the midfield were dominant with Matt O, Gus M & Xavier K. dominating possession. As a result, PSC won the match 5-2 with Barry B. bagging a hattrick.

The second match was not going to be as easy with a confident Glen Eira coming off a win in their first match. However, sticking with the early dominance theme, Barry B. scored his fourth goal within the first minute of play and Glen Eira were shaken but their resolve was much stronger for the remainder of the match. It took a worldy of a goal from Xavier in the midfield to break through and we ended up winning 2-0.

Our third match, against Mt. Eliza, was a more casual affair, with Coach Dunne making wholesale changes in preparation for a possible final in the following match. The boys were a bit disjointed in their new roles at first but eventually got the win with Jamie K. knocking in his first and Barry his fifth goal for the tournament and an eventual 2-0 win.

The final against Alkira was a fiery affair with a number of yellow cards brandished by the referee. However, PSC set the tone with two early goals from Jamie K. who was hitting his straps. A late goal in the 28th minute to Alkira brought the score back to 2-1 which set a cat amongst the pigeons and a few nerves crept in. Subsequently, a minute later PSC conceded a free kick just outside the box and Coach Dunne was glad he was already bald, or there would have been a few grey hairs added to the head in that final 30 seconds! Fortunately, Alkira’s free kick was blasted over the post, the whistle was blown and the PSC Senior Boys Soccer team were crowned Regional Champions!

An outstanding team performance from all involved, but special mentions must be given to our captain, Matt O’Neill, and vice-captain, Ollie Anset, who were vocal, solid and true leaders on and off the pitch. Well done, gentlemen!

The boys are now off to the State Tournament on September 1st, so watch this space!
