Herbs, Spice, and Everything Twice as Nice: STEP Restaurant Cooks Up a Storm
If the delicious smells drifting from the STEP kitchen this week left you wondering what was going on — wonder no more. Our budding chefs have been hard at work developing the new STEP menu, built around one simple idea: food with a twist. And this week, that twist came in the form of herbs, spices, and a whole lot of pasta.
The brief was simple: take a classic and make it unforgettable. The results were anything but ordinary.
Prawn and Squid Pasta
Fresh seafood met a carefully balanced blend of herbs and spices in this dish, proving that a little flavour experimentation can turn a simple pasta into something special.
Beef and Beetroot Ravioli
Talk about a twist! Earthy beetroot and rich beef came together in hand-made ravioli parcels, resulting in a dish that was as striking to look at as it was satisfying to eat. This one was a true test of technique, from rolling the pasta to sealing every parcel just right.
Chocolate Fettuccine with Chai Cream Sauce
Yes, you read that correctly — chocolate pasta! Our students pushed the boundaries of what pasta can be, pairing house-made chocolate fettuccine with a fragrant chai-spiced cream sauce. Bold, creative, and a little bit daring — exactly the kind of dish the STEP menu is all about.
Days like this are what the STEP program is all about: building real skills, trying new techniques, and having the confidence to get creative in the kitchen. A huge congratulations to all our young chefs for their hard work, curiosity, and willingness to try something new (chocolate pasta included!).
Keep an eye out — these dishes might just be making their way onto the STEP Restaurant night menu very soon.

Start Your Engines: Year 7 STEP-ers Race Into the Design a Car Challenge!
Rev your engines and hold onto your hats — the Year 7 STEP cohort recently traded textbooks for tech as they took on the Design a Car Challenge, and the results were nothing short of spectacular!
Working in small teams, students used Fusion 360 to design and engineer their very own race cars from scratch, thinking carefully about aerodynamics, speed, and structural design before putting their creations to the ultimate test: a head-to-head race down the track. But designing a fast car was only half the challenge — each team also had to put together a professional portfolio and deliver a verbal presentation, explaining the thinking behind their design and the science that made it move.
The result? A huge amount of creativity, teamwork, and healthy competition — and some seriously impressive engineering from our budding designers.
A massive congratulations to everyone who took part. Here are our stand-out winners from the day:
Overall Champions
SuperNova — Danielle, Nayda, Gideon & Dom
Best Portfolio
Aces — Aoife, Serenity & Ebony
Fastest Car & Best Verbal Presentation
SuperNova — Danielle, Nayda, Gideon & Dominic, clocking an incredible 0.6805 seconds!
Fastest Reaction Times
Serenity — 0.014s
Nayda — 0.032s
Lucas — 0.126s
Those are lightning-fast reflexes — professional race car drivers would be proud!
A huge congratulations to all our Year 7 STEP-ers for embracing the challenge with such enthusiasm, creativity, and team spirit. From concept to design to the final race, every student should be proud of what they achieved. Who knows — we might just have some future engineers and designers in our midst!
Well done, everyone — and especially to our champions, SuperNova, for taking out the top honours.
