2026 Melbourne Career Expo

On Friday 17th July, the Year 11 VCE VM students attended the 2026 Melbourne Career Expo, at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. This Expo allowed the students to further investigate their future pathways and to talk with people who worked in these industries. The 2026 Melbourne Career Expo showcased over 110 Exhibitors from Universities, TAFE's and Training Providers, large Australian and international employers. 

The students visited exhibitions and stalls and took part in presentations given by numerous organisations. Congratulations to all those who attended, on your enthusiasm and willingness to ask questions and gather information, to help make informed decisions about your future pathway.

‘Safe Food Handling’ (SFH) and ‘Responsible Service of Alcohol’ (RSA) certificate:

The Year 12 VCE VM students had the opportunity to complete their SFH and RSA certificate on Tuesday 11th August. These certificates can be used globally and a great extra skill to have, especially if travelling around the world in the future.

The students were all active and considerate in their participation whilst completing the certificate requirements, well done.

Mock Interviews and Bounce Excursion:

Tuesday August 12th, saw the Year 11 VCE VM students complete external Mock Interviews at the Malvern Town Hall, run by BGKLLEN.

The students had to prepare a portfolio, including a cover letter and resume and complete a mock interview with a member of the BGKLLEN team. The students were highly commended on their attitude and commitment to the mock interviews. The staff commented on how well they performed in their interviews, and they should be very proud of their efforts.

The students were then rewarded with a session at the local ‘Bounce’ trampolining centre. The students had a great time and said that it was one of the best excursions they had attended.

A big thank you to BGKLLEN for organising the Mock Interviews and providing us with the bus transportation.

 Year 12 VCE VM ‘Mock Interviews’ and Performance Reviews:

On Monday 10th August, the Year 12 VCE VM students completed Mock Interviews, a Pathways Interview and Performance Reviews. The students had to take part in a mock interview conducted by staff from Head Start. The students were required to have a portfolio to present in this interview. The students are to be commended on their efforts and performances in these interviews, which will hopefully give them confidence to approach a real job interview in the future. They were also required to complete a pathways interview to review their needs for their pathway outside of Parkdale Secondary College and to discuss their current progress to ensure they were completing all that was needed to successfully gain their VCE VM certificate.
