YEAR 8
Building Strong Connections

Head of Year 8
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope all students and families enjoyed a relaxing break and are feeling refreshed and ready for a jam-packed term.
The Year 8 students have had a fantastic and positive start to the term, with excellent participation, effort and House spirit at last Tuesday's Cross Country. I was most proud to see students saying yes to running or walking for House points, pushing themselves out on course, and demonstrating great sportsmanship at the finish line.
Congratulations to our Year 8 cohort on being such wonderful role models for our younger students! A special mention to our age champions, who have put in the hard yards in training. It is great to see your dedication has paid off.
There are only a few weeks until one of the most exciting events of the year for Year 8 - our Fitzroy Island Camp in Week 7. Parent slips have been sent out, and we ask that these are completed by Friday, 1 May to allow adequate planning time. Please ensure all medical and dietary information is current.
On Tuesday during SEL, we will be confirming tent arrangements. As a reminder, students are required to organise their own tent groups and drop their tents to the Nazareth Pavilion on Monday, 11 May before 8:30am.
If your child has any concerns about the camp, please make contact early so that appropriate support and accommodations can be arranged.
In PG over the coming weeks, students will be reflecting on their Term 1 report cards to celebrate successes and put plans in place to strengthen areas for improvement. We encourage you to raise this with your child over dinner; have your child relay what goals they’ve set for themselves this term, and why they’ve set these goals. Accountability is a great precursor to success!
Parent-student-teacher interviews are being held this Thursday from 2:30pm - 6:30pm in the HOB. Our teachers look forward to meeting with you to discuss how we can collaborate to ensure success for your child.
Students have the ongoing expectation this term to be using their diaries every lesson to record homework. This encourages organisation and develops positive habits to ensure success in later years. Parents are required to please sign diaries each week, in preparation for checking by the Pastoral Mentor on Tuesdays. Thank you for your support with this.

Please note that all key dates are listed in the College Calendar. This can be accessed via the MyCE Parent App and synced with your personal calendar.
