Mackillop Family Services Parenting Workshop: Making School Drop-offs Easier

We are excited to be partnering with Mackillop Family Services and have invited them to deliver a workshop, supporting parents who are having challenges with their child at school drop offs or sutrggling with eagerness to attend school.

Details as follows:

When: Monday June 24, 9:15am - 10:45am

Where: Sunshine Primary School, back portable (near Ms Thomai's Grade 6 classroom)

About: Are morning goodbyes often teary and drawn out? Do you often hear “I don’t want to go to school…” before the day starts? You aren't alone.

Coming to manage the transition to school can be a challenge for both children and parents. Learning to trust new people in a new place can take time but thankfully there are things we can do to better prepare our little ones for the start of school or heading back after the holidays. Join Liza Costello, Parent Educator in a information packed workshop to better understand separation anxiety, the important role you play in setting up for the day and the resources available for support along the way.

This workshop is suitable for parents/carers of children 5yrs-12yrs.

Light reshreshments provided

To ensure we have enough seating, refreshments (and the most adequate space), we would love parents/caregivers to RSVP for attendance. Please click on the following link and complete the brief form: https://forms.gle/KUW5Uj3u7c1UUDKs8

Resilient Youth Survey

We are super proud of our Grade 6 Resilient Youth & Wellbeing Leaders - Grace, Liam, Felix, Ebony, Sarah, Kathy, Dalal, Van and Safia, who did an amazing job planning for, and facilitating, the Resilient Youth Survey with all students in Grades 4-6 on Monday of this week. They even ran some fun, connected activities at lunch time of finger knitting, mindful colouring and origami, and dodge ball contests.

Our next steps as a group will be to unpack and analyse the data, consult with the students to get more information about the identified areas of need, and work with the community to develop and deliver initiatives that will help the students of Sunny Heights improve areas of their wellbeing!

We are also hoping parents have had a chance to complete the Resilience Australia parent survey so we can also find out important information about how our families are feeling and what we can do to support you. If you haven't had a chance to complete it yet, we would love your input. Remember, the survey is anonymous, so you can feel safe to share how you are feeling about life.

To start surveying go to: https://rysurvey.org/

School Name: Sunshine Heights Primary School

Your Parent Resilience Survey Access Code is 452532.

If you have any questions about the student or parent survey and/or would like to complete the parent survey but need some support to do so, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Student & Parent Diversity Ambassadors Program

Don't forget.....

YOU could be our next Diversity Ambassador!!!

Thanks to a generous grant from the organisation, Together for Humanity, of which we were a lucky recipient, we are super excited to start our own Student & Parent Diversity Ambassadors Program.

The program will see us form a committee of students and parents who represent and advocate for the different diverse groups within our school community, working with their identified community to increase engagement, voice and representation. The committee members will work together to create a shared understanding of - and between - the many diverse communities at Sunshine Heights Primary.

Interested parents and students can complete an expression of interest form, which the 'Together for Humanity' action team of staff will review, shortlist and interview.

The chosen ambassadors will be offered training to help them co-design with their communities to develop initiatives, ideas and processes that help support understanding and awareness of the many ways we are diverse at Sunshine Heights Primary School and to promote empathy, connection and belonging.

If you are passionate about social impact and helping share the voices and stories of your identified community to create a positive impact at Sunshine Heights Primary School, we are searching for diversity ambassadors from ALL diversities (cultural, social, gender, sexuality, religious, disability, racial, mental health, age +++).

If this sounds like something you or your child would be interested in, please complete an expression of interest form HERE

Happy Space Allied Health Speech Pathology Program

Our partnership with Happy Space Allied Health has been so amazing and having Liv onsite to support our students (and staff) has been so insightful and useful.

Liv works at our school every Thursday and is now at capacity with the number of students she can see. But... in exciting news... she is keen to increase her days to 2 days every week, so if your child has NDIS and you are looking for a speech pathologist to support them with their communication and social goals and would love your child to attend onsite speech pathology sessions, please reach out to me to let me know what support your child needs and I can connect you with Liv!
