Week 5 Updates

Visual Arts

This fortnight in our choice-based studio, we can't help but marvel at the incredible weather, which has beckoned many of our artists to venture outdoors, basking in the sun and creating art.

Some of the artists have been experimenting with layering paints—a technique that adds depth and complexity to artworks. Artists have been tearing up their creations and reimagining them anew, employing felt and glue to craft vibrant, textured masterpieces.

Collaboration has been at the heart of our creative endeavours, as artists join forces to bring their visions to life. Working side by side, they've discovered the power of collective imagination and shared expression.

In the midst of all this creative energy, we've had the joy of witnessing our youngest artist delve into the world of cardboard techniques. Through hands-on exploration, they're discovering the endless possibilities of this medium, transforming cardboard into all sorts of things!

The studio's focus has been centred on the Studio Habit of Mind (SHoM)—Observe. Through observation, we hone our skills, deepen our understanding, and enrich our artistic pursuits.

Performing Arts

All the students have been in the thick of their instrumental lessons. It's been great seeing their high levels of engagement and progress as the sessions have gone on.

Preps have learned to identify patterns of 2/3 black keys on the keyboard, then focussed on the group of 2, using it to identify D. Each session, they have learned a new key/note. Preps can now identify C, D and E on the keyboard.

Students in Grade 1/2 have been practicing identifying all white keys on the keyboard, and have started finding notes on the treble stave. They've now started labelling their own sheet music and playing their songs on paper keyboards.

The moment Grade 3 students have been looking forward to - learning guitar! Students have started learning about the strings and frets of the guitar, and are working towards playing a song using TAB.

STEM

These past two weeks have been filled with excitement, especially with the Grade 5/6 Camp. Check out the ‘Year 5/6 Learning Reflection’ for some great photos from Camp Marysville!

Our Prep to Grade 2 students have been busy observing the weather using their senses. They’ve also created a weather chart in the STEM room to monitor daily weather changes. We’ve explored weather reports and learned how different symbols represent various weather events.

In Grades 3 and 4, students have finalised their designs involving magnets. Over the next few weeks, they will be working on creating Stop Motion films to showcase their understanding of magnetism.

Our Grade 5 and 6 students are utilising Digital Technologies to demonstrate their understanding of light. We are incredibly excited to share their innovative projects! So far, students have been coding games in Scratch, creating quizzes in Kahoot, classifying materials in Minecraft, and producing Stop Motion films.

Spanish

¡Hola a todos!

These last two weeks our Preps had a blast exploring family members through engaging flashcard games and diving into the colorful world of  the story ‘Pequeño azul y pequeño amarillo.’

Grade one and two students embarked on an exciting journey of discovering the differences and similarities between Australian and Spanish schools, while enjoying traditional Spanish school games.

Meanwhile, our Grade 3 and 4 students honed their speaking skills by discussing their personal worlds, sharing likes and dislikes.

And our Grade 5 and 6 students delved into the art of describing their self-portraits.

We also had a surprised visitor last week, my daugther Alba, who loved spending time with my beautiful and amazing students.

¡Felicidades a todos for another two weeks of learning and growth en español!
