Great Southern Griffins
The Griffins Netball Club has had a strong start to the 2024 season. We are fielding 18 teams in the ANA Winter competition, with 44 players in D grade, 46 players in B grade and 73 players in A grade – a massive total of 163 players! This is a true testament to what a great club we are and the people wanting to be a part of it.
We encourage our players, coaches, managers, and umpires to become integral parts of our club by providing the necessary training for them to be their best. So far year to date we have run the following workshops:
2024 Griffins Netball Development Day
Our very own Coaching Development Officer, Mrs Gail Butterworth, presented this workshop in April to 50 players and coaches before the 2024 season commenced. Our coaches, old and new, were taught some new skills whilst our players, from all the grades, got taught some too. Our A & B grade players loved working with our D grade players, who look up to these players and aspire to be like them one day. Griffins Netball Club love this culture we have built, and we encourage everyone of our players to represent us proudly.
Netball WA New Coaches Workshop
After lunch on our Development Day, Griffins Netball Club hosted a Netball WA New Coaches Workshop that provided ten of our coaches the opportunity to upskill and get ready for the season ahead.
Thank you to Great Southern Grammar for the use of the gymnasium for our development day.
Netball WA Game Day - Community Workshop
Griffins Netball Club hosted the Netball WA Game Day – Coaching Workshop at ALAC on the evening of Wednesday, 8 May 2024. 14 coaches enjoyed the opportunity to upskill and learn more about all things Coaching on Game Day. After an informative theory session, the coaches observed a Griffins A1/A2 scratch match and learnt about team bench organisation, pre-game address, feedback and post fame feedback.
Our players have enjoyed learning their coaches’ new skills in their weekly training sessions. A lot of our teams train at the same time which allows the development to continue for the coaches and the players. Everyone is helping each other out to be the best they can be whilst having fun at the same time, another integral part of the Griffins Netball Club.
Thank you to our hard-working committee members and coaches for their help during the Development Day and the Netball WA Workshops.
Our club umpires are doing a wonderful job each week and umpire at a high standard. Griffins Netball Club is always on the lookout for new umpires so please contact us if you are interested in becoming one.
Four rounds into the season have seen some strong games being played. We have seen some wins and some very close losses and then some wins and losses that have triggered some grading adjustments, creating a fairer game play which encourages our players to continuously improve and refine their playing skills.
We love filling the ALAC with the passion of our players chants and cheers.
The Griffins Netball Club is on the hunt for game day sponsors, please contact Club Chair, Brooke Pearson on 0438 212 822, to discover how you can be a part of this amazing club.
