2024 GS WCF High School Cup Results
Last week we covered our Netball High School Cup experience in Katanning. This is the overall results of the day from Kelly Dominiak, Netball WA Great Southern Membership and Development Coordinator.
On Thursday 2 May, Netball WA Great Southern held the annual High School Netball Cup at the Katanning Leisure Centre. Twelve Schools took part in the event this year, nominating a total of 41 teams from throughout the Great Southern Region.
Unfortunately, after four years of having beautiful Autumn sunny weather we had a wet drenching for all teams who had fixtured games outside just before lunch. Lots of memories made with some lucky enough to shield undercover whilst others rejoiced in the conditions – particularly those with farms who have been waiting for some wet weather! Seven indoor courts and ten grass courts were the place to allow 104 games of netball to be played. Pleasing to see upper school team’s utilising match play for the upcoming Schools Country Week in June. Was fantastic to see nine Upper school girl’s teams and whilst it would have been fantastic to have every school play each other – time didn’t permit with numbers so pools had to be formed. Each pool had some great games to challenge teams to make the top of their pool for the final.
Well done to Denmark SHS who submitted an Eleven and Twelve Girls team after a few years and great to see the team make a final.
To the schools who had to travel long distances to participate – particularly Jerramungup District High School thank you for your attendance – we appreciate your commitment in attending the school carnival.
Nice to see numerous schools claim the school cup for each division – ASHS, NASHS and Denmark well represented. North Albany Senior High School Nine/Ten Girls team will be strong contenders for the Eleven/Twelve Division West Coast Fever Cup in 2025 with a dominant performance throughout the day. Denmark SHS continues to produce some strong boys’ teams in the lower and middle school divisions.
The results from the day were as follows: -
WINNERS | SCORE | SCORE | |||
Year 7/8 Girls | ASHS | 12 | Runners Up | Narrogin SHS Team 2 | 7 |
Year 7/8 Boys | Denmark | 11 | Runners Up | NASHS | 5 |
Year 9/10 Girls | NASHS | 13 | Runners Up | Narrogin SHS | 10 |
Year 9/10 Boys | Denmark | 10 | Runners Up | ASHS | 9 |
Year 11/12 Girls | ASHS | 17 | Runners Up | Denmark | 6 |
Year 11/12 Boys | NASHS | 17 | Runners Up | Katanning | 2 |
After another huge event, the Netball WA Great Southern would like to thank all schools for their organisation and effort getting all their teams ready for the day. A big thank you to Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Shire of Katanning in particular, the KLC staff and Recreation Services team for their ongoing support and sponsorship of such a fantastic event! To our wonderful band of helpers on the day ensuring the event ran smoothly including umpire allocating, umpiring, ground control, timing, data entry – this was a fantastic team effort to ensure the school kids could participate in a carnival!
