PCV State Horse Trials is Fast Approaching!

Rider Information for PCV State Horse Trial Championships 2026

Excitement is building for the 2026 PCV State Horse Trials, taking place on May 16-17 and proudly hosted by Barwon Zone at the Colac Pony Club grounds. This highly anticipated state event brings together Pony Club riders from across Victoria for a weekend of competition, teamwork and horsemanship.

Who Can Compete?

The State Horse Trials are open to riders competing in Grades 1 through 5 after qualifying.

Qualifying Requirements

All riders wishing to compete must meet the qualifying criteria prior to entering.

Grades 1 & 2

  • Riders must achieve two qualifying performances, with at least one in a Pony Club (PC) or Open section at a PCV accredited event.
  • One qualification must be gained in the calendar year of the championship.

    Riders must have:

    One result with no more than 20 jumping penalties on cross country, and

    One result with zero jumping penalties.

  • One qualification may come from:

    EA CCN*S (Grade 1) or EA95 (Grade 2) event

    HRCAV Horse Trials at the equivalent level.

Grades 3, 4 & 5

  • Riders must achieve three qualifying performances, with two in a PC or Open section at a PCV accredited event.
  • One qualification must be gained in the calendar year of the championship.

    Riders must have:

    Two results with no more than 20 jumping penalties on cross country, and

    One result with zero jumping penalties.

  • One qualification may come from:

    EA80 (Grade 3) or EA65 (Grade 4) event

    HRCAV Horse Trials at the equivalent level.

Certificate Requirement

Riders aged 14 years and over who have been members of Pony Club for more than two years must hold their C Certificate to compete at a State Championship event.

Team Competitions

Riders also have the opportunity to compete as part of a Zone Team. Two team competitions will be offered:

  • Grades 1-3
  • Grades 4-5

Teams will be selected by the Zone once all entries have been received.

Zone Uniform

All riders competing must wear their Zone uniform. Information on how to purchase uniform items will be provided closer to the event by your zone directly.

How to Enter

Before entering the event, riders must submit their details to the Zone Representative for endorsement, including:

  • A scan or photo of both sides of their membership card, clearly showing attendance and grading.
  • Proof of qualifying results, either:

    A copy of the card with performances signed off on the back, or

    A clear screenshot of official results showing all penalties, including cross country.

Once the rider’s details have been endorsed, they will receive a link to complete their entry. Riders are responsible for submitting their own entry and cannot enter until endorsement has been received.
