Specialist Classes

Auslan
Foundation
Over the last two weeks foundation students have been practising previous learnt words and new words have been introduced. They have also been learning 2 songs using Auslan signing:
1. Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
2. Rainbow Colour Song
It has been lovely seeing how enthusiastic they have been when singing and signing in Auslan.
Level 1
We have started our Family unit where students have been practicing signing family words e.g. family, aunt, baby, brother, children, cousin, daughter, little, father, mother. They have practised these words as a whole group and then had conversations with peers using Auslan grammar e.g.
Q. Sisters, how may you have?
A. I have 4 sisters.
Students embraced the challenge of doing this in silence.
Level 2
Level 2 have continued their learning and practising of action words in pairs.
Partner 1: fingerspells the action word and
Partner 2: has to sign the action word back.
I was super impressed with how they did this in silence (almost!).
Science
Library – Foundation & Level 1
Foundation & Level 1 students have shown beautiful manners and how they can follow the group plan during our browsing and borrowing routines. They have been eager to make predictions about our story and came up with some wonderful ideas. Well done all!
Library - Senior
Visual Arts - Junior
This week we continued to be inspired by the artist Romero Britto and created our own colourful, patterned bears and designed backgrounds full of interesting lines.
These bears will be displayed near the Year Two classrooms shortly. Hopefully the Year Ones bought their bears home with excitement.
Foundation students are settling into the art room very well. They have been learning to draw fish and use water colour paint to add colour.
Happy long weekend!
Visual Arts Senior
Welcome back to visual arts for 2026. We have had a wonderful start to the year so far, setting up our art journals, creating a window display and celebrating Lunar New Year through art.
This week we have been exploring colour theory in all year levels. The 3/4 students have been practising mixing the secondary colours and the 5/6 students have added the six tertiary colours to their colour wheels. Students all practiced colour mixing to create all of their colours from just the three primary colours red, yellow. blue.
Art Club
Our Visual Art leaders - Rosemary and Violet ran their first art club for the year with year 2 students. It was a HUGE success! We will be running this weekly during term 1.
Performing Arts - Junior
Foundation & Level 1 students have practised playing on the beat with various percussion instruments and moved to the beat in different ways. Foundation have been practising action songs in preparation for the end of term celebration. Level 1 has practised body percussion for the Five Speckled Frog song,
Performing Arts - Senior
It’s been a fantastic start back in the Performing Arts room so far this term.
Grade 2s
This is my first year of teaching the year two level cohort Performing Arts! I am very excited to get to know these students and to see all their talents and creativity. Our topic focus this first term will be music, playing on percussion instruments and being introduced to rhythm notations! Students are also learning about orchestras, music families and instruments.
Grade 3/4s will have an exciting year ahead, with all three Performing Arts topics being taught this year. Term 1 will have a music focus, with singing and playing percussion instruments, playing along to well known songs with the correct rhythm notations as well as compositing their own rhythm notations.
Grade 5/6s will be completing a Ukulele unit this term 1. This will be the first time many have picked up this instrument! The students will be learning different chords and strumming patterns, while hopefully being able to play a full song by the end of the term!
The Grade 5 & 6 school musical production has been chosen for this year, and it shall be an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. Currently, auditions are being held for those students who wish to obtain a speaking and lead singing role, in the cast. I am looking forward to these auditions and seeing the talent from our Gr 5 / 6 students. More information about the night of the production will come later on!
