ENGLISH

During term 4, we continued to use the Ochre English program, which is a diocesan wide program used in all of the schools and that was introduced at the beginning of 2025.  This program is going to be extended and continued in 2026.

All three classes studied novels with the theme of ‘Children with diverse learning and social needs’ who were on the Autism Spectrum.  Our writing task for the term was to write a persuasive piece. As some of our students love to argue, this was a popular text type to choose for our final one for the year.

The students were taught about how to use persuasive techniques commonly used in this form of writing and they continued to have new vocabulary introduced to them. They also learnt more about how to extend sentences to improve their individual level of writing.

The Mungee English class was fortunate to have a fourth-year student teacher, on her final placement, in our English class for most of the term.  Freyja majored in English and is a very skilled English teacher.  The students loved having her work with them.

We finished the unit by watching the film, Wonder.  This film has themes that we could all relate to and that were similar to those in the novels we read in class.  I have never seen our students as engaged in any other film as they were in this one.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas, New Year and a safe holiday - Liz Carroll

MATHS

This term in Maths, students engaged in a consistent routine of Daily Review, Reteach sessions, and Ochre lessons, helping them build confidence and strengthen key numeracy skills. Their dedication was evident in the way they approached new concepts and persisted through challenges.

Students also completed their ACER testing, with many demonstrating pleasing growth that reflects their hard work and steady improvement throughout the year.

We are very proud of all our students and the progress they have made - Alison Adamo
