Sustainability

This term, students have been actively engaged in hands-on sustainability learning through a range of real-world environmental projects at the Mullinmur Billabongs.
A highlight has been their involvement in ground-breaking taste-aversion research led by Dr Ligia Pizzatto from La Trobe University. Students contributed to data collection across multiple field sites, investigating innovative ways to deter foxes from predating on turtle nests. The outcomes of this study have the potential to significantly improve how we protect local turtle populations and enhance conservation efforts across our region.
Students also continued their ongoing monitoring of nesting boxes, recording the presence and activity of key native species, including Sugar Gliders and Squirrel Gliders. Their work supports long-term habitat restoration and helps us better understand the health of our local ecosystems.
Overall, this term has provided students with valuable opportunities to participate in authentic environmental science, deepen their ecological understanding, and contribute to meaningful conservation outcomes within our community.
